Only one thing I would disagree with here. Kevin was not given 'his role in the hole". He was stuck out wide because Gundo played. I will say it until I am blue in the face. In big games Gundo and Kev cannot play together.
Apologies, I should have been clearer here - I meant that Bernie needed to take on Kev's more usual role in the hole. I completely agree that KDB out wide is poor positioning, and he and Gundog shouldn't be in the same line up. I also don't understand why KdB and Foden should stand at the corner flag together. All we are doing is depriving ourselves of an additional presence in or around the box. However, that is probably an argument for another thread.

Has anyone taken the time to go back and look at all the shirt pulling in that game, esp in the penalty area from free kicks and corner kicks? Are they all fouls? Penalties? Why not? Would it be “too soft” to give a penalty and an almost certain goal to a side for grabbing a shirt for a second or two?

I have no problem with a CONSISTENT APPLICATION of the rules, but it’s the INCONSISTENCY that kills you…and leads to the claims of bias.

I look at what Taylor let go in that game, and I just can’t fathom VAR dragging him over to see a 1 second shirt pull! People were getting mugged (Thiago’s two footer on Rodri?) all game, but he was letting them play.

Sure, you can say “a shirt pull is a foul! Great! Let’s call pens on every shirt that gets pulled in the box then! Simple.

Foul & abusive is a RED CARD offense! Let’s see it called!

Taylor set out his stall BEFORE THE GAME, then held to that standard…until the goal!

Why?

Media now blowing smoke up the Dippers arse as predicted , Klippety outsmarted Pep , Van Dick best centre back in the world again , Gomez nailed on for a world cup place and geriatric Milner to get a four contract until he draws his pension , Salah also nominated for Balon D'Or for his winning goal.
They will not reach that level again until the return game at the Etihad , maybe their weirdo fans should ask themselves why they are being short changed for the other 36 league games.

You could feel it was a big game for them... The team and Anfield were up for it. Too bad we didn't show the same attitude or balls and I think the whole set up from Pep was the baseline for the team. After looking a bit in the distance I put the blame on Pep.
Anyway, they have their fun, we just carry on in the title race with the Arse, we been there many times before

Because that’s what all refs do. None give pens for shirt Tugs in the box. Micah called it right. Tiago was clever going down before he felt any contact and Taylor was only 10 foot away so should have given the free kick. I don’t think anyone would have moaned too much had he done. It’s the fact he didn’t that’s annoying. Overall he reffed it quite well for me. It was a very difficult game to ref and the crowd and Klopp made it even more difficult. That’s home advantage for you I suppose.

For me, we got too caught up in the emotion of it too. We should have kept a calm head and played our usual game. If we get dragged into how another team wants us to play then we lose some of our superiority.

We could still have won, had some chances that usually we would score at least one from and subdued them well in the first half. Second half we were too open, too attacking at times and chasing a game we really didn’t need to win. A draw would have been a good result there and kept them in their box. We shot ourselves in the foot a bit for me in that game.

Sad question here, but why did the announcer have to tell us approximately 9 times that we would be kept in after the game and escorted to our mode of transport. I doubt anyone would walk me back to my car over Stanley Park and then the cemetery.

Very good at the long ball game aren't they? Numerous times the ball was yeeted into the air and they are very accomplished at bringing it down quickly, turning and then suddenly they're at you. Very effective. I bet that's practiced a lot on the training pitch.
