We have to get over this anfield blindspot. We do things we never normally do every time we play there. Defensively poor throughout, especially in terms of distribution I thought. They played like it was their cup final, defended for their lives, made the most of the absolute fuck up, and we just couldn't get ourselves ahead.
The disallowed goal was probably a foul usually, but what annoys me is that a lot of 'fouls' were left alone by the referee. Ok that's fine, it's a big game and we all want the game to flow - big challenges make great games. But, he's let a lot worse than go, and the inconsistency is what is really annoying. Ultimately though, wtf is Cancelo doing? It's that error that's ended up losing us the game.
No big deal, we'll be celebrating again in May.

So many PEP blaming clowns in this thread but bet they never blamed the ref for missing stuff during the game:

BTW seems our Norweigen meatshield has balls of STEEL!

Wow

think I watched a different game to some of you.
Taylor can be a half decent ref , today , that wasn’t the case.
Completely agree, controlled the game for them subtely(sp). How many times did jota just stop, wait for contact chest to back and flop on the floor and get a free kick. Their defenders every time under pressure, flop to the floor, free kick. Milner 2 handed shove in the back, no free kick, all game, Taylor will get a huge bonus, and the next big game involving a team in red. Controlled the game better than xavi and iniesta in their prime

Phil? Sorry mate but he was Mahrez light today. Playing against Milner and Gomez he shat out of it. They were there for taking on and he turned inside EVERY time. Sadly the Liverpool kryptonite has infected the younger players as well as Pep.

Phil was very good. He drove inside because of no overlap, never gave the ball away and was easily the standout.

We have to play Arsenal home and away. A draw there, and a win at ours, and we are fine. Just wish we'd taken one of our chances today, but we don't have to go back there till next year.

We are only 10 games in so the reality is that points will be won and lost in all sorts of odd games. You have a stronger squad than us and we are more vulnerable to injuries to key players. I don’t honestly see us challenging you for the league title or anyone else come to that. Our goal is top 4 and so far we are having a good crack at it but I’ve been around too long to count my chickens on early season form especially when the season is broken up with the World Cup. I think we still need to strengthen in January to improve our chances of top 4. Frankly, I know this was always going to be a painful defeat losing to LFC but some of the negativity on here and the criticism of Pep, I struggle to understand. Get some perspective - you’ll still win the league. Of course, there is one positive for me. Another season when no one can match the Invincibles!

Rubbish. He's a football manager not the fucking Messiah. He fucked this up, again. Like he often does in these high pressure games. He is not perfect, no-one is.

Matey give over ? Pep and city got done over by VAR today, plus it's not like we win at Anfield all the time but end up champions

We were the better team again, I thought Kev didn’t have his best game, got in some great positions to play a killer pass but couldn’t quite find it. Erling didn’t get an absolute clear cut chance but still looked dangerous as fuck.

Bernie was fucking immense - every week you love him just a little bit more - , as was Phil 2nd half. Eddie, bizarrely our only player wearing blue, had one of his best games for a while. Dias was worryingly poor, naively selling himself at least twice, he needs to pick his game up.

On a positive note as I said we were the better team, they were bang average so there’s no doubt we’ll finish above them. Leave the small time cunts to celebrate a win in their cup final, we’ll chase down another title

Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "This is Anfield, every time you come here lately unfortunately this is Anfield.

"We played a really good game but this is a game where there are really fine margins and the mistakes are punished. We made a mistake and we cannot concede and that's why we lost the game.

"We played to beat Liverpool today, definitely we played for that. After 1-0 the crowd shouted but we shouted more on the pitch.

"The referee said played on, played on, played on, there were a thousand million fouls like this and this one is because we scored a goal. So they disallowed because we scored a goal, otherwise it would not have been disallowed.

"We lost because we make a mistake but this is Anfield.

Well said Pep, if they'd scored it then it would have been allowed. We get fined £260,000 for a pitch celebration, surely for throwing coins they should be fined too? I won't hold my breath.

We bottled it at Anfield again. Worrying to much about control instead of attacking a week defence. Joao will probably get the blame for the goal but the absolutely woeful free kick from KDB directly before it led to that situation. A bad day at the office all round.

And you won't answer the other part of the message. Is the header completely alone and in a great position not a great chance? And the shoot in the front not a great chance?

The header you’re talking about had an xG of 0.08.

it’s not a big chance, it’s barely a chance at all. If he had 13 cracks at it he’d likely score 1.

Why are liverpool drawing or losing to other teams worse than us but against us they produce a result? Other teams don't care about how liverpool set up and just play their natural game but for some reason we had to rejig the whole structure and formation around liverpool's strengths. FFS.
other teams dont lose because ttheir team isnt set up in a way that absolutely magnifies one of liverpools biggest threats and highlight hugely their own weakness...

Pep wants his defenders to be perfect 1vs1...however against the likes of Salah and various others that is impossible 100% of the time....and it only takes on mistake to win/lose you a game..

Scousers defend deep and hit on the break...they also outfight us and thats something else we constantly lack despite teh technical brilliance of our players...

They make us pass it around lots in midfield by pressing in the middle thrid...they dont press in the final third as that spreads the game out too much but in the middle third where the game is then more compact if it breaks down the space is in behind.........we pass pass pass and liverpool just wait for the mistake caused by their pressing which invariably arrives.....today it happened from the first minute.

If everyone ran and through themselves around like Bernardo Silva then it wouldnt be a problem but the likes of Cancello, Ake,Mahrez (in the past), Gundogan (in the past) and KDB from time to time, struggle when teams get in their faces. ....And when i say like bernardo im not just talking about the distance he covers but the way he goes into tackles, the tenacity he shows..the fight he shows.....those that Ive mentioned dont show that fight...they are far too nice

Other teams will out battle liverpool.....
Liverpool also raise their game against us every time....we dont

We’ll have our moment against them, and I can’t wait for it we’ll fuck em up. It’ll happen
We had it beating them 5-0 a few years ago. And 4-1 at Anfield a couple of seasons back. And 4-0 at our place, though they were possibly still hung over after winning the league.
But it's time we did them again.
