Struggling to work out whether it's a good point or two more frustrating dropped points in a 'big 6' game.
Started well but Liverpool adjusted to version of our 3412 which began to cause us issues. They could get well into our half with longer passes to Bradley. It also gave them a 4 v 2 in midfield areas when Elliott went narrow.
City more than any other team, rely on controlling the tempo to be at their best. If our attacks end too quickly, we are vulnerable to direct attacks. If we aren't fully committed to our passes and don't move the ball correctly and at the right tempo, we are vulnerable.
We struggled with this yesterday after about 20 minutes. It is tedious watching Alvarez from the start in these games. He doesn't retain the ball well enough to play anywhere else but upfront. The team becomes clunky and we lose control. He cost Rodri a yellow card which caused us issues in the second half (Diaz carrying the ball against him)
There has to be some adjustment in our shape or how we press too. Unless we are absolutely bang on it like against United, teams are getting beyond the first line too easily.
I'm worried we aren't going to find the gear to win the big trophies this season. Possibly a change in approach is needed now. Or we won the lot last season and it's physically & mentally a step too far. Lots of questions!
