Liverpool (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

In hindsight Liverpool and their fans will feel Liverpool dropped 2 points at home. Just like we did in similar fashion at home against Chelsea. Liverpool fans were very quiet and subdued after the match coming out of Anfield. Coming away from Anfield with a point wasn’t a bad result in the end.
Very much like the game at the etihad earlier this season as well where we had a perfectly good goal disallowed and missed a tonne of chances.

Rodri was our best player in the 1st half, too.
The poor bloke is immense, but probably feckomg knackered. He said himself last season if CL final had gone to extra time he had nothing left to give. Add that to a busy close season and playing every game this time round, bar stupid suspensions, he is my player of the season, along with Nathan and PWalter F.

We can't keep putting on him and whilst my jury was out on Rice xfer to Arse, the longer seasons gone on, it was good business for them. He's not Rodri standard, but he is playing well and has developed under Arteta ( who BTW I can't stand).

Yes Rodri was good yesterday just hope he has enough in the tank for next 3 months....

How would any scouting pick up if a potential player can head the ball correctly, in exactly that situation? I saw him head one the other week that stopped an attacking situation.

Do some people here not even play football? Sorry to the poster but wtf expectations you guys have nowadays.
I actually meant pulled out of physical challenges. Yesterday was not his first time he had in my view

The guy's a Trojan. Need someone who can slot in there now and then and do a job to ease the burden.

I get that there's been a decline in terms of a direct comparison to last season but thats because last season was freakishly good. It's probably the best season we'll see in our lifetimes. Add to that the lads have already brought in two trophies this year, into the quarters of the UCL, quarters of the FA cup and a point off the top with 10 to go and its not looking to bad a season in the making. in two months time we could be sat with just the two trophies picked up this season or we could be sat here with 5. Either way I don't think we can question the effort, commitment and talent of this group. We just have to accept that there's some strong challengers this year.
Can't count those daft cups surely..your already in the Final and Semi's those are built on last year amazing squad not this one

I am still surprised that they didnt give a penalty at the end.
Macallister was very clever, lunged at Doku’s high boot as he was clearing the ball, 9 times out of 10 he con’s the ref like he has conned the very conn-able impartial football journalists. Only 5 more years of constant reminding of this “injustice “ to go

Just watched Dermot knowing what they would say about the non penalty - ref got it wrong.
It gives plenty of slow motion replay's and nobody askes why A. M.made no attempt for the ball but clattered J.D.
Seen lots of examples of the dippers getting between player and the ball just to gain a foul.
Any way them twats can add it to the victim list below the non offside at spurs when the summer's here and they finish second by a point.

This week the victims tears will be sponsored by Manchester City.
“It should’ve been a penalty”
“Doku should’ve been sent off”
“City’s goal shouldn’t have stood”
“Penalty, handball, handball, penalty, handball….”
Can’t believe we lost that game 1-1 ; )

If we win our next 2 games and get a decent draw in Europe then we’d be solid favourites for all 3 competitions. We won’t win all 3 I’m sure and either the league or CL would be amazing but no one could argue what a great position we’d be in.
the FA cup, a back to back CL and Arsenal win the prem, goodbye Jurgen

Struggling to work out whether it's a good point or two more frustrating dropped points in a 'big 6' game.

Started well but Liverpool adjusted to version of our 3412 which began to cause us issues. They could get well into our half with longer passes to Bradley. It also gave them a 4 v 2 in midfield areas when Elliott went narrow.

City more than any other team, rely on controlling the tempo to be at their best. If our attacks end too quickly, we are vulnerable to direct attacks. If we aren't fully committed to our passes and don't move the ball correctly and at the right tempo, we are vulnerable.

We struggled with this yesterday after about 20 minutes. It is tedious watching Alvarez from the start in these games. He doesn't retain the ball well enough to play anywhere else but upfront. The team becomes clunky and we lose control. He cost Rodri a yellow card which caused us issues in the second half (Diaz carrying the ball against him)

There has to be some adjustment in our shape or how we press too. Unless we are absolutely bang on it like against United, teams are getting beyond the first line too easily.

I'm worried we aren't going to find the gear to win the big trophies this season. Possibly a change in approach is needed now. Or we won the lot last season and it's physically & mentally a step too far. Lots of questions!

Let’s be honest we would take a point at anfield
They were more likely to win by the end but we did ok
We battered them first half as well
They took an undeserved point at our place that’s football
My main concerns were Kev had no legs, erling looked awful and Alvarez will cost us the league in midfield if he keeps playing
Against Arsenal we have to be better but the crowd will help
