Liverpool (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I've watched the Doku penalty incident about 100 times today. I'm still unsure.

And that is probably why var has stayed with the on field decision . Flipping close though. I do wonder how I would feel if that was Robertson on Foden....

What I am sure about is the indecision to head the thing in the first place was mental.
This prompted me to look at the actual FA rules which I've never actually dune.

A penalty kick is awarded if a player commits a direct free kick offence inside their penalty area or off the field as part of play as outlined in Laws 12 and 13.

Direct and indirect free kicks and penalty kicks can only be awarded for offences committed when the ball is in play.
Law 13
1. Direct free kick

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
  • charges
  • jumps at
  • kicks or attempts to kick
  • pushes
  • strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt)
  • tackles or challenges
  • trips or attempts to trip
If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick.
  • Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed
  • Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned
  • Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off
A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences:
  • a handball offence (except for the goalkeeper within their penalty area)
  • holds an opponent
  • impedes an opponent with contact
  • bites or spits at someone on the team lists or a match official
  • throws an object at the ball, opponent or match official, or makes contact with the ball with a held object

So I think this one comes down to whether the ref thinks its careless or reckless. Thankfully for us Oliver thought it wasn't.

But the rub is that its all down to the refs opinion.

I'm not Walker's biggest fan. Imo, Ake is much more likeable. Pep and fans love him for a reason. But our team lacks a bit of pace and Walker and Akanji are quicker, especially in this new formation featuring many attacking-minded players.

BTW, our defence vs Real, in both legs, was Walker, Dias, Stones and Akanji. Wasn't bad at all.
Not at all. For me the problems stem from Rodri being left alone in front of the back four. Alvarez did a nice job in KDB's absence but he can't be in there with KDB unless it's in place of Haaland. If Pep insists on playing Alvarez anywhere but as a 9 we won't be winning anything, simple as...

I thought Kovacic should've started the Liverpool game beforehand & in the Derby too. He's not gonna score goals but he's quality at keeping possession & linking the play with Kev, Bernardo & Foden. It's allows us to keep control more too & not give the ball away. When he came on we looked more stable & had some chances. He needs to start the game against Arsenal .
Against the bigger teams he needs to start for me with Kev & Rodri in Midfield.
Play Foden & Bernardo out wide & Haaland through the middle.
He's our best replacement for Gundogan. He should've started. Pep must've known it was important to control the midfield. Thank goodness he put him on but it should've been a lot sooner and then Kev may not have been taken off. Everyone could see Alvarez was struggling with fitness and it was obvious he wasn't going to get any better. All being said we got lucky with the pen and a valuable point considering the performance level was well below our usual standard.

Klopp saying it was the his team had played against us and still couldn’t win.Tossers

Jota would play over Elliott and Thiago plays over Endo.
So 50% of their best side missing, only Jack for us.
Thiago is permanently injured and pretty slow. So no real miss there
Kelleher better than Allison
And Arnold infinitely worse defender than Bradley

The only misses were Konate and Salah for 60 mins. We definitely missed Jack as Alvarez was probably our worst player, giving the ball away constantly and creating very little. We should have put Phil or Bernardo out on the left with Kovacic starting at #8.

was really noticeable how liverpool's play acting increase dramatically when Salah and robertson came on.
I think that's why the doku thing was brushed aside so quickly. In the few minutes prior Salah and go had been going down in and around the box like they'd been shot.

We won the treble last season. I could dine on that for life. The players won it having already won the league twice in a row. The standards and consistency have been absolutely incredible. We beat the rags in the FA Cup final as part of it. It hasn't fully sunk in how spectacular it has been, and I'm looking forwards to the documentary to bask in that glory again. For the players, it's been a monumental effort to follow that up with the standards again this season. We're right in it yet again. We've had De Bruyne out for much of the season. Bernardo, Grealish, Stones missing at times. And Rodri suspended. Our club captain went in the summer and Mahrez who delivered a number of goals and assists too.

We've broken so many records with this side. No one has ever won 4 league titles in a row. It's fucking hard. And we're right there with a chance to do it. And to retain the CL. And to retain the FA Cup. You couldn't ask for more as a City fan. We could have played better yesterday, the side Pep picked maybe wasn't right. But it's Anfield and a point is a good result. We've had some bad results and missed opportunities but no different to previous campaigns. Beat Newcastle and we're back at Wembley in the Cup. We'll know our CL opposition and that is likely to be tough unless it's Dortmund/PSV. But it was tough last year. Next up is Arsenal in the league. Feels like win or bust. So let's fucking win.
Great Post, you cannot believe what this side has given us, we got a draw, we could have won we could have lost, its football, happy with a point and move on, some on here would never have got through the dark days...

I’m damned sure when we played at the Etihad earlier in the season we didn’t have the full 24 hour looped replay of the Akanji goal where the whole planet agreed it shouldn’t have been disallowed, nor the totally disregarded other Alisson mishap where he dropped the ball over the line after another Akanji challenge where he was barely touched.
You do realise you are talking about the best goalkeeper in the world dont you ?
