I've a funny feeling he's going to play Stones alongside Fernandinho. Might not be a bad move we seem to get over ran in midfield at Anfield.

I'd be all for (this game only) just loading up at the back and stop sit and draw them out. Only need Raj and Sane up top to kill them on the counter. Starve them of possession.

Ederson

-----Danilo--------Dinho-----Stones-------Bernie-------Mendy

-------------------------Raj------------Sane

If that selection happens, there is every chance Stones will be targeted by thier team and caught on the ball - I don’t think he quickness of feet or thought to play in midfield against Liverpool

Would you like too see somebody (If not Stones) alongside Fernandinho? Or go with FERNANDINHO...SILVA...BERNARDO in the middle?
No doubting we've the much better footballers in midfield than Liverpool, But they seem to over run us at Anfield in the middle. Personally I think the best way to beat Liverpool is try and be boring as possible at Anfield for a change instead of fighting fire with fire.

Sorry bro, that I think is a ridiculous line-up and basically signals that we've been beat mentally by Liverpool. None of the 2 Silva's?! C'mon now. Yes, they beat us soundly last season, but it wasn't like we were dominated (well, may be except the first leg of the Champions League). We can hold our own against these lot and its high time for our victory.

No Sergio but you would play a shopkeeper from a David Williams book?

Interesting so many seem to want a 3 at the back formation. With the way liverpool play and how reliant they are on their wide men and fullbacks it seems to me it would be insane to lineup with wing backs, that would allow their fullbacks and wide men to completely dominate out wide and would drag our midfield which isnt especially mobile, all over the pitch.

I think the key is to make use of Ederson's passing ability to skip their front press on occasion. play balls just beyond the midfield for our wide players to collect and put us on the front foot immediately like we saw at goodison last season. Our problems against Liverpool stem from them pressuring us into mistakes high up the pitch allowing them to counter before we can adjust.I'm not suggesting we play long ball or anything but making them turn a few times can get us in but even if it doesn't, it forces them to drop an extra 5-10 yards through fear of that happening which in turn lessens the pressure on the ball when we do play our usual game.

I wouldn’t change our tried and tested formula - less 15 mins of madness in two games against them, we were find for the most part

They are a good team and will create chances against us regardless of who we play in midfield. The key is for us the weather the storm and be a constant threat - if we can have them chasing the ball for the first 15 mins, we should have enough to finish the job

Ed
Walker Stones Laporte Undecided
Fern
Bernie Dave
Sterling Aguero Sane

3-5-2
Laporte vinny stones
Mendy fern silva silva walker
Aguero sane or sterling

That would be really attacking! Too much I feel.
It looks like a stronger midfield, but it isn't,
in fact the 2 wingbacks would invite dippers for what we don't want at all, fast breaks.

Pep made it clear again, he won't change his philosophy of possession and offensive setup.
So the idea of 2 pivots is off the table.

Walker and Mendy as wingbacks is too risky me thinks.
Walker is supposed a bit deeper this season due aging and we also know he loses the balls now and then high up the pitch, no go.
Mendy is just back to training. I think it's too early for him PLUS he can be a defensive threat too.

I still think it's 4123, including Laporte as LB, Dinho as 1 pivot, Bernie and David as 2 AMs, Raz, Sané and Sergio.

With Delph out it might force his hand a bit. I can’t see him playing Laporte there again, Zinchenko is too slow and is inexperienced and could be targeted and Mendy is not the greatest full back I’ve seen either so it’s risky whichever strategy he opts for.
