Oh well, thats made up my mind. i can just about justify 57 quid for a ticket, add to that the 35 for membership and then travel etc and not a chance im paying 140 quid to watch a game of footy. If they had set membership at maybe a tenner a lot of people would snap those tickets up.

City have fucked up here. They will alientate a lot of people not just setting ticket prices so high, but also fleecing £35 of people just to buy a ticket. They dont get much wrong, but this will just push people away.

Who are they pushing away though?

Season tickets sold out in record time..when the expansion happens they have another 7000 on the waiting list

Casual match goers are unfortunately not a priority..the small number of available tickets for single games will sell easily as demand increases..mainly snapped up by tourists..it won't affect attendance in the slightest

However you could 'choose' to move to a cheaper seat

I think the price we pay to watch a game of football these days is obscene

But I also think the petrol prices are obscene

I think you can add a majority of blue/ citizen members to that as well I was a season ticket holder from 1976, now I live away and a season ticket doesn't suit me. I can only get to 6 games a year.
However if I can get one for £299 in the expanded stadium I could well get one. Trouble is I will still only be able to make around 6 games / season so it could well be empty except for a few games when I can lend it to friends.

Actually, do United even charge that much for games against Liverpool?

City fans set to follow the well trodden path of watching matches in the local, while the Frinton-Smiths from Kent buy £150 ticket bundles for themselves and their two kids.

Our owners have done marvellous things for the club and the City of Manchester.

However on this particular issue they only need to look at the trend in Germany. Clubs like Dortmund and Bayern make sure they keep their tickets cheap. This ensures that the local fans who can't afford season tickets can still afford to attend the odd game.

I think the other relevant issue is that revenue from the paying punter is a very small part of the overall revenue stream flowing into the club. For this reason I believe that it would do no significant harm if the club went the other way and reduced prices, or at least offered the occasional fan a reasonable pricing structure.

I also can't understand how they can justify charging kids so much to attend. For a family it becomes a huge expense. Where are the fans of the future going to come from if parents can't afford to take their kids to a game?

My final point is that the club are not recognising the local demographics. Manchester is not one of the wealthiest cities in the UK. Hence any price increase hits hard for those that are not well off.

Come on City. Please reconsider this issue. The club is not going to go broke if local fans are looked after.

Now this is something the club should help with as it would stop a seat being empty and give the ST holder some money back. I know certain ST can do this using viagogo but I think they should find a cheaper way for all ST holders

Most season ticket holders have faced fairly consistent above inflation rises as well. I'd be surprised if the number who have given up season tickets isnt significant. And will only increase if the price rises continue.

But it used to be that if you met a blue there was a good chance they went to games. As opposed to rags who watch in tv or at the pub.

I hope the club has a rethink on this one. Individual match ticket prices between thirty and forty pounds is seen as too much for some but would be much better than this. Come on City.

The way modern football is in the Premiership the only way to get 'affordable' tickets is to have a season card. Unfortunately that makes it very expensive for the guy with a couple of kids or those fans who either cannot afford a season card or who can't attend many matches. I guess, like many of my generation, I miss the spontaneity of fans being able to turn up at the ground and pay at the gate. Season ticket holders were the exception rather than the norm and I know it's not City's fault that isn't the case, football violence leading to all seater stadiums and limited capacity being the main reason. But I do feel our club has a unique opportunity to buck the trend of rip of prices. £125 for a bloke to take himself and two kids to watch City v Liverpool is, in my opinion, obscene and City do not have to charge those prices. When my Dad first took me and our kid to Maine Rd it cost him 12/6 for the three of us, I'm guessing that was probably about 1/15 of his weekly wage, what percentage of an average blokes weekly wage is £125?
Some posters have suggested that to reduce ticket prices to a more affordable level would mean a drop in revenue of about 2.5 million a year. Now if the club say that they cannot meet FFP without that 2.5 million then so be it but I can't believe that amount would make a significant dent in our finances. Every time one of those surveys comes through I always put in the "any other comments" box that the club has to be aware of the unique relationship it has with the fans and that they damage that relationship at their cost. Our owners have the finances to make a statement on ticket prices, not rip away fans off, stand out from the rest and support the supporters. As a P R exercise it's got to be worth 2.5 million in positive publicity.
