Very impressed, but that left-back issue is going to kill us, time and again.

Rico was magnificent again, what a talent the boy is. The right amount of aggression, calmness in possession, always in the right place, joining up in midfield.

Promising from Palmer in the first-half but we really need to move the ball quicker to keep Haaland involved.

Will feel more comfortable when Kyle can use his pace to avoid the counters.

But only being present inside the stadium could truly portray the horror of City unveiling their new pre-match light show.

There was a hint something was up when smoke was released from all four corners of the stadium. It was, though, only a prelude for what was to come, as lasers lit up the pitch and announced City's starting line-up while also, at the conclusion, declaring it was time for a disco.

The home team also couldn't resist a dig when Ilkay Gundogan was announced as the player who had scored the goal that won the Premier League title last season - when Liverpool were beaten into second place. Stay classy, City.

I often think that being bit more defensive to start games against better teams that we would do better overall. A double pivot in the centre gradually morphing to a single pivot and box to box mid as the opposition tires would reduce defeats and draws against the better opponents.

I’m not sure about the morphing although I’m not the best tactician but the basics have always been to have one man more at the back than the attacking team. It’s how I’ve always and still play, and even my lads academy still teach. Always one covering. It gives you a massive advantage yet we still risk going one on one and get punished for it. How many teams score on their first and second breakaways because of it. Surely it wouldn’t be too difficult to have an extra player goal side?
