Agree with others that the away goal was vital at Anfield. I understand not playing Sterling but Bernardo instead of Gundogan would have given us more threat.
Laporte at left back made Sane’s game suffer so on both flanks, which is the very things we rely on, we were compromised.
Last night, we did indeed create the perfect storm (in the first half). Had the goal stood, we could have bolstered the defence at half time and played next goal winner.
Laporte will be very good for us. He looks so assured. If Stones can rediscover his early season form, it could be a great partnership for years.
Raheem Sterling needs to commit to finishing. I know this is the post Liverpool thread but I’m trying to sum up how I feel after the last seven days. That stabbing motion infuriates me because it relies on the connection being perfect. Following through means you take some of that risk away.
The refs have been bent. I’ll take nothing away from Liverpool, they scored 5 goals over two legs. We’ve been told time and time again though that momentum is all important. When Liverpool had it at Anfield, they put us to the sword. When we had it at Anfield, we were denied a goal and a penalty. When we had it last night we were denied a second goal and lost it. When Liverpool has it last night, they scored twice.
BT sport glorified the coach attack and then last night when the match came on, every clip on the pre-match montage showed red flares. This despite Liverpool warning their own fans not to take them.
The pundits might be growing up. I can accept Lineker and have always liked him. The presenter’s job is to provoke debate. He didn’t play for us so owes us no loyalty. Rio Ferdinand has always been up towards the top of my hate list but is becoming one of the best of the lot.
Liverpool FC and Merseyside Police are a disgrace for what happened at Anfield and should be asked serious questions of both.
Juergen Klopp has gone up in my estimation over the past week. I thought he was towing the party line over the coach attack initially but afterwards, when he had more time to talk, he spoke eloquently and emotively and condemned those responsible. He DOES get his teams performing to a level that is greater than the sum of its parts and I’d be happy if we appointed him after Pep decides to move on.
I’d put in a bid close to the Neymar fee for Salah. Imagine a front three of Sane, Agüero and Salah? Good grief.
Our atmosphere CAN be epic. We just need to embrace at least one group home fixture and EVERY home knockout fixture in the Champions league and maybe the time has come to stop booing.
