Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Liverpool accomplished their strategy perfectly.

Old Liverpool would take the game to us, but they just decided to sit in a block of 10, knowing they could stop us and knick us on the counter.

Pep needs to figure out both ends of this spectrum, because we are struggling against these low blocks, and the high press teams.

If Rodri comes back late August fit and ready we are at least competitive again. Nico can slot in to make it more compact in possession and defence more protected . Haaland fit will add to confidence. Phil needs to be in his natural attacking position. Perhaps a natural right back will be brought in over the summer. That will solve a host of problems. Maybe a new centre half as well. Factor all of that in and as Pep would say " we will be there"

It's shockingly bad! I can only compare how our team currently play to watching a football trials game. It's akin to watching 11 random players, all wearing the same shirt, but with absolutely zero collective responsibility or plan. Everyone of them just does their own thing and trying to impress for their own benefit. Some of them should not even be on the pitch. KDB has began to look that out of touch that even basic passes are beyond him. Lewis is nothing more that a Guardiola vanity project, and would not get a sniff at another Premier League team. Foden clearly contributes more the his feckin barber than he does to our team. And all of it, is at the behest of one man, Pep Guardiola! Nothing, absolutely nothing, will change until he has gone.
Look what changed when he came.

Abject boring burnt out pedestrian out of date tactics that he has no idea of changing that have been worked out by most clubs We didn't lay a finger on Liverpool today. Thanks Pep it's been amazing. Have a nice retirement .

In truth you could see Liverpool were definitely playing within themselves. I liked the energy from Doku and Sav on the other side but the end product needs much more work - plus we need people to be gambling on the crosses that fizz across the box. Poor KDB has finished now surely? He looks tired, fed up, and he struggles to make the passes these days. Foden needs to buck his ideas up - his body language tells it's own story - maybe he's carrying an injury but he was a virtual passenger today. Marmoush will do well - he has plenty of passion, pace and energy and I can see him doing well playing off Harland when he comes back. The new lads at the back look ok - Kushanov especially looks like he's always up for a fight. Rico Lewis always makes me panic wherever he is playing, I never feel he can be trusted to do the basic stuff. The rest were ok but it's poor when you are bringing on the old men late in the game to try and get something - did Gundogan actually get the ball? Overall it's what was expected to be honest. We lost to the champions elect with a shadow of a team that is going through transition. A major clear out will come in the summer and with the right recruitment City can push on again. Till then, it's a chase for the top four and maybe, just maybe an FA cup win to ease the pain. CTID.

Savinho, Doku, Khusanov and Marmoush all played really well and deserved something out of the game.

If Pep is going to persist with the style that’s been so successful we are going to need like for like replacements for Kev, Gundogan, Kovacic, Walker and Stones. We’d essentially need the “new” version of each of these players.

If that’s not achievable he’s going to need to change the style.
What the fuck did Marmoush do today that makes you believe he played "really well"...?

Maybe a sign of how bad we've been, but I thought this was one of our better performances.

There were some frustrations and obviously some big changes ahead but there were some decent signs.
It wasn't. You are wrong. That was a bad performance that looked bad and was bad.

Watch ali v foreman. Imagine we are foreman.
And that's what you've just seen. Out thought, out fought.

If anything Pool respected us too much. I liked our pressing a bit more today though than recently like Madrid for sure though. We move on, was never expecting anything from this or Madrid.

Good one we actually played well just couldn’t finish you think of the spine of the team missing piss off mate
I think you need some punctuation. I don't think too many played particularly well. You're entitled to your opinion though pal.

Watched on TV as struggling with a cold. The only positives - Khusanov and to a lesser extent Nico and Marmoush had decent games. Defence was OK apart from the goals. No injuries (hopefully).

We clearly struggled without Haaland. Psychologically I think it hurt the players.

Foden was absolutely abysmal, could barely trap a 5-yard pass. It's clearly a mental thing. Perhaps he needs a few weeks off to get his head straight.

Kev - thanks for the memories...we'd have been better off with the much-maligned Kovacic in there who I expected to start.

I don't get why he's stopped playing Sav on the left, he'a miles more dangerous there.

The whole tactic today was about getting Doku 1 v 1 against Alexander-Arnold. Didn't work because Doku's end product is still shite. I think Sav would have been the better option out there.

Dominated possession, but never looked like scoring. Particular standouts were Kev and Phil - at least Kev is old and injured, not sure what Foden's excuse was today.
