I've upset the natural order of things here - Dog Breeders' thread was one place above this one!
Correct.Regarding our penalty, I thought the lengthy discussions amongst the panel were OTT - is it just me or have we seen those given in the past way before these new handball rules came in? Sure, they weren't always given but some were and for me it's more of a pen than some of the others that have been debated of late. I'm not saying Gomez deliberately handballed it but he was sufficiently far away from De Bruyne when the ball came in to take some kind of evasive action to avoid it hitting his elbow, no matter how much he tries to tell us all how much Kev put his foot through the ball. He only tried to take evasive action afterwards with that guilty looking attempt to pull his arm away. Liverpool got a penalty in the CL final against Spurs in 2019 for something similar and it was nowhere near as shit a decision to award ours on Sunday as it was for that useless fat **** Dowd to award one to Liverpool in the League Cup semi at Anfield in 2012 against Micah when the ball deflected onto his arm from point blank range.
I wouldn't mind 'gifting' teams these pens if the same criteria for 'awarding' them applied not just in both areas but all over the pitch. There are fouls not called all over the fuckin' pitch but the minute a scarlet clad diving git gets into the oppo penalty area the LotG are applied rigidly, and often incorrectly! One of the ex-refs called a pen in the studio on the basis that the 'contact' (so often quoted by the know-nowts' on MotD, particularly Danny Boy) had 'impeded the opposition player! Jeeeeezuz - one set of laws for the penalty area - well, some penalty areas - and another for every other blade of grass.Goal = 192sq ft
Keeper = about 18sq ft
It’s not rocket science, but NONE OF THAT MATTERS IF YOU DONT HIT THE 192sq ft!!!
Allison is a big unit. He is perhaps the most imposing keeper in the league. KDB tried to PLACE the perfect pen, but overdid it because (IMHO) he wanted it as far away from Allison as possible if he went the correct way. He didn’t!
The best pens are those that hit the 4 x 6 in the top corners. Best players in the world who can’t hit those 48sq ft (either side) shouldn’t be taking them!
I wouldn’t change the penalty taker, but I would have players practice them more.
Not just 2 points dropped, but 1 point added to Liverpool’s total, which makes it a 3 pointer.
Second time we have GIFTED Liverpool a 3 pointer from 12 yards out! That’s OLD “Typical City” stuff! Let’s not, eh?!
Dowd commented some time later that he didn't see/realise it had hit Micah's leg before it flew up and hit his hand/arm, and that had he known that he wouldn't have given it.Regarding our penalty, I thought the lengthy discussions amongst the panel were OTT - is it just me or have we seen those given in the past way before these new handball rules came in? I knew it wasn’t Kev’s fault.I did something have never done before in my life. When Kev was about to take the penalty I got up and went to get another brew. I knew he would miss.
I think the foul on Sterling was identical to the one on Mane, but the foul on Sterling took place outside the box and so there was no danger of a VAR review. It was clear that Kyle's foul was so reckless - and this is the big difference with Sterling - that poor old Mane hit the deck so forcefully I thought he was going to drill into it. I was just relieved Mane wasn't destined to spend a month in hospitalThe thing is before they got their penalty Sterling was clearly pushed in the back, its wasnt shoulder to shoulder it was a shoulder into the back of Sterling. A clear free kick to City ( cant remember if it was in the box but it was close). I dont understand how VAR didnt review it and award City a free kick. VAR took an age to award City a clear penalty under the new rules, even made the ref go and look at pitch side. Yet I cant remember VAR taking long to award liverpool their penalty. We know if that shoulder in the back was on Mane or Salah the ref would have blown before they had reached the ground !.
The pundits were begging VAR not to award the clear handball penalty to City it was embarrassing to listen to.
We are clearly ref'd different to the teams in red, and it's not even subtle its blatant.
Completely agree!I wouldn't mind 'gifting' teams these pens if the same criteria for 'awarding' them applied not just in both areas but all over the pitch. Perversely its the players who are killing football.Completely agree!
SO tired of hearing “there was contact!” IT’S A CONTACT SPORT!!
The question is, “Was it a foul?”
Against Liverpool, Sterling was fouled in exactly the same way as Mané, except Sterling TRIED to stay on his feet! Mané went down like a sack of spuds and was REWARDED FOR DIVING...just like Salah in their previous game!
We have VAR, but the “clear and obvious” language is being used to NOT overturn these decisions! The language should be, “Was it an ACTUAL foul, or was the referee conned by the speed of the action and the actions of the player?”
And, the whole “there was contact” BULLSHIT needs to be shamed out of existence! Hell, if THAT was the threshold for a foul anywhere, there would be no football...and every dead ball or corner or throw in hoisted into the box would be a penalty!!
There is so much at stake in games now, and most penalties are goals, which are ridiculously valuable and completely change games. Accordingly, there needs to be a REDEFINITION of what a foul is snd is not, with referees gaining an understanding of what should and should not be a foul, a yellow card, and a red card!
The lack of consistency from ref to ref, league to league, country to country, and competition to competition is ridiculous, especially considering they’re all supposed to be applying the exact same Laws of the Game!
The quality of refereeing, and the diving that creates penalties and free kicks in dangerous areas, is killing the game.
Without fans in the stadium, it has been noteworthy to see how players feign injury less and roll around less, ESPECIALLY when the ref doesn’t give the foul and plays on.
Without doubt, the biggest cancer on the game is the CHEATING SND PLAY ACTING! My friends in the U.S. just roll their eyes and laugh when they see it...esp when the super slo-mo replay shows he either wasn’t touched or was barely touched. It has become the norm to see a player drop to the ground holding his face as if hit by a pick ace handle for even the slightest contact to the head or face. This can only be to try to get a player sent off. It is pathetic and cheating!
If the PFA had any interest in addressing the cheating against a fellow professional, they would step in and say, or do, something about it, too!
It's the managers who are killing football because they don't come out and condemn it and then allow their players to carry on doing it. Brian Clough, I think, massively bollocked one of his players for attempting to cheat by diving. He said if he did it again he would be dropped. And he would have done as well. Pundits talk about players being 'smart' or 'cute'. Absolute shite.......it's cheating. End of.Perversely its the players who are killing football.
They must practice these dives and rolls in training with the blessing of their managers
