Liverpool (H) - Post-Match Thread

I see the MEN is saying that Klopp has explained his tactical masterplan that confused Pep and City! Rather surprising since I think everyone on bluemoon worked it out as soon as they clapped eyes on the Liverpool team.

I can understand why the foul on Raheem wasn't given.
The initial foul was outside the 18 yd box. If Raheem had gone down then, I don't doubt that he would have got a free kick.
As it was, he continued his stumbling run into the box , the ball got away from him and he went down.
Contrary to popular belief I think that the ref made the correct decision.
Now if, on the other hand, Sterling had gone down under the initial challenge...
Presumably the referee thought that stumbling to your knees and losing possession of the ball is a sufficient advantage to keep the game going? Makes him a pretty shit referee imo.

Regarding our penalty, I thought the lengthy discussions amongst the panel were OTT - is it just me or have we seen those given in the past way before these new handball rules came in? Sure, they weren't always given but some were and for me it's more of a pen than some of the others that have been debated of late. I'm not saying Gomez deliberately handballed it but he was sufficiently far away from De Bruyne when the ball came in to take some kind of evasive action to avoid it hitting his elbow, no matter how much he tries to tell us all how much Kev put his foot through the ball. He only tried to take evasive action afterwards with that guilty looking attempt to pull his arm away. Liverpool got a penalty in the CL final against Spurs in 2019 for something similar and it was nowhere near as shit a decision to award ours on Sunday as it was for that useless fat **** Dowd to award one to Liverpool in the League Cup semi at Anfield in 2012 against Micah when the ball deflected onto his arm from point blank range.

I nearly collapsed today... A Dipper saw my City screensaver on my phone as we were checking into the local garden centre for lunch... He said "We were lucky not to lose on Sunday... I was so relieved when Foden didn't come on"

I nearly fell over in shock then SWMBO (also afflicted) said "he's talking rubbish" when he left ;-)

It was a clear penalty. It did not - as Carragher asserts - hit TAA on the elbow but smack bang on the forearm which was turning towards the ball. His arm was at right angles to his body and not in a natural running position (he was actually putting in a little jump, which suggests intent) and his body was turning towards the ball which made the contact deliberate. KdB was not near enough for the claim that the ball was hit so hard that TAA could not get out of the way holds any water. The pundits can wring their hands and argue that it's harsh and it wouldn't have been given last year, but as the Leicester-Wolves match (and many others) showed, this season those penalties are ALWAYS given, even (most of the time) against Liverpool (away!).

PS I know ref's (and VAR) can't take it into consideration but TAA has "history" with handball against us.

Can't believe that there is any kind of controversy over our penalty (not that it even matters as it was missed anyway). Gomez's hand was in no way in a natural position. Maybe if he was running at full pelt then yes it could be so argued. In that instance he wasn't. It was the very definition of making your silhouette bigger.

Great post apart from the fact that it was Gomez who handled it and not Terence Trent Arnold or whatever the fuck he’s called!

The thing is before they got their penalty Sterling was clearly pushed in the back, its wasnt shoulder to shoulder it was a shoulder into the back of Sterling. A clear free kick to City ( cant remember if it was in the box but it was close). I dont understand how VAR didnt review it and award City a free kick. VAR took an age to award City a clear penalty under the new rules, even made the ref go and look at pitch side. Yet I cant remember VAR taking long to award liverpool their penalty. We know if that shoulder in the back was on Mane or Salah the ref would have blown before they had reached the ground !.
The pundits were begging VAR not to award the clear handball penalty to City it was embarrassing to listen to.

We are clearly ref'd different to the teams in red, and it's not even subtle its blatant.
