Liverpool - post match thread.

I think the same about Aguero. I've said it a couple of times I don't think Pep fancies him and it shows in kuns attitude and approach on the pitch imo. I fully expect him to be gone by the end of this season and set the wheels in motion now for a replacement. If we can we need to buy now in January and inject a bit of new blood into the backline. On current form I can see us slipping out the top 4, luckily for us everyone around us plays eachother but it's pointless if we don't get points on the board.
We got a huge rebuild on our hands here, those first 10 games sucked us all in, but as Andy tate said we've got to wake up and smell the coffee.

+1
I can't see us winning the league but I think we'll finish top 3

Think Chelsea will win it this year

High press..team press..play out from the back..sweeper keeper..ball playing centre backs..Yaya ..no Yaya ..inverted full backs..kick it long..pass it keep it..give & go..hit the line..cut inside..overlap..hold your position..move..over the top..through the middle..one /two..wall ball..dribble..fast..slow

3 1 4 1 1.....4 1 4 1....3 1 6......4 1 5....4 1 2 3....( some times in the same game). What is our 'core'style ?

No wonder the players look bemused & lack confidence. They're drained before they start.

Truth is Liverpool were very average and we weren't . I think we have gone backwards or at best not moved forward. We always look comfortable going forward but then no end product. Two attempts on goal is not good enough. There were no telling passes and the whole game looked one up from a pre-season friendly. Where is the intensity in our play?

Where have I said I wanted Klopp?

Yes Pep has got a great record. Wow. Unlike you my friend I'm not going to become a history boy, looking back like the Dippers and Rags. What matters is what he does now and in the future. In terms of who else, that's just a stock response to any criticism that is thrown Pep's way. You honestly telling me he shouldn't be doing better than he is now? We are ten, yes ten points behind a team that finished mid-table last season - remind me how long their manger has been in charge?

We concede goals at will, can't score for toffee despite spending a fortune on attackers, and are the softest of soft touches. He persist with players clearly past their prime and lacking ability, whilst ignoring a stunning youth system full of hungry and capable players, two of which he's now shipped out on loan to a Spanish second division team. Wow. Well played Pep. He's got a great record though.

And who are you to suggest I don't get behind the team? This is a message board where people can vent and express their opinions. It has no bearing on how I behave at the ground. I'm desperate for Pep to do well, because if he does, then it will mean my beloved City are doing well also. City come before any one man, and if I think City are being damaged by someone, no matter who that someone is, then I'll say so. At the moment I have little faith in what Pep is doing. That doesn't mean that I don't hope he restores that faith again by actually starting to win games. If and when he does, I'll express my gratitude and joy accordingly.

Happy new year.

So let me get this right. The past is unimportant and Pep's achievements mean nothing yet you mention Chelsea finishing mid table last year as a way to give extra credit to conte? Anyone who knows an ounce about football knows that that Chelsea side is way better than where they finished. And by the way they are reaping the rewards in the league of not being in Europe this season.

And also what do you expect Pep to have won after six months? Do you not think you've lost faith a bit prematurely? If pep turns it around and you come on here praising him in a few months, as you've said you will if he does get the team back to winning way, are you not going to feel a bit silly?

And this stunning youth system you talk about. Maffeo and Angelino. Boy I hope you're right and I hope they make it. But do you seriously believe that Pep Guardoila couldn't see the talent these two have if they are immensely better than Kolarov/Clichy and Zab/sagna? Sorry to mention the past again, but this is a man who blooded Pedro and Busquets at Barca. A man who signed pique, trusting in his assistant who had directly worked with when he couldn't even get a game at united. A man who binned off stars like Deco and Ronaldinho because they weren't pulling their weight anymore. Yet you claim suddenly he can't spot talent? I mean seriously?

So posts saying they have lost faith in Pep isn't abandoning him?

Weak mentalities as I say.

I presume that's aimed at me. Expressing how one feels is now a weakness in ones mentality? Bloody hell, I'm in my thirty fourth year of having a season ticket - no weakness in my mentality pal after all the shit that I and many others have had to endure over those years.

Faith is good. Blind faith however is completely overrated.

It's easy to say that when watching on tv/stands but when someone passes the ball to you under pressure and have you have no options ahead of you what do you expects going to happen

My heart skips a beat every time I watch this

What do I expect is going to happen? Maybe the professional footballer to complete the 5-10 yard pass successfully? Is that too much to ask? We play that kind of ball constantly in open play which I appreciate is moving and not as static but it's hardly a hospital ball. If you feel he can't make a pass from that position he should be nowhere near our first team to begin with

Being outside the top 4 at the end of the season would not be the worst thing. The rags, Liverpool and Chelsea have been out of it and they have come back stronger. It would give us a serious boost to focus just on the league

Thought first half was an absolute disgrace, way too timid, didn't seem to be pressing enough and lost pretty much every physical battle against a team who had much more desire. Much improved after the break (not difficult) but what a wasted opportunity to gift them a goal in such a tight match. The goal looked an absolute fiasco to me. Yaya's free kick was embarrassing, Kolarov's attempts to deal with the ball were pathetic (as one would expect), Zabba let the cross come over too easily and how we can allow a player to have such an easy header right in the middle of the goal, I have no idea. I didn't have the best view but surely Kolarov could have done more to try to deal with it? Not seen any footage of the match since I got back and frankly doubt I will bother looking for any highlights, can anyone tell me where the centre backs were when someone was heading the ball in from about 8 yards bang in the centre of the area? We have got to get back to playing in Pep's style quickly or we will sink without trace IMO. So, passing and movement off the ball has to be quicker and better and most importantly we need to get back to the high pressing that we were doing effectively earlier in the season and when we do it we look a different team (second half Arsenal, second half Barca and for 20 mins last night). At the moment we seem to have fucked all Pep's ideas off for most of the time and settled into the same pattern of shite we have seen in the previous two seasons.
But isnt that down to the manager?

I do not accept that having possession equates to us having 'control' per se.
The game was controlled by Liverpool as soon as they scored, and their game management was excellent.
Of course we applied some pressure in the second half, as you might expect, but Liverpool didn't look too troubled, and they presented a threat on the break too (plus a spell of their own when we were under pressure).

I understand how people say 'IF decisions at Chelsea had gone another way. IF we had taken our chances. IF we'd done this or that' - but this game is about taking the chances and we haven't.
We're not a bad team, but we're not a great one either - we're just very good - along with any of the top 6. Chelsea and Liverpool are better than us right now and I'd argue Arsenal are might be too.

There's quite a bit of work to do - other teams are improving rapidly, and we're not, thus we're falling behind. This current team is not as good as the Mancini title winning one (IMO) and that's a concern given we are 5 years further down the line.

To blame Yaya is laughable, he passed it and maybe under pressure but that doesn't mean he couldn't make his pass does it? The fact yaya passed it there doesn't mean he loses his "ability" to kick a football?

To be fair, regardless of whether we're blaming Yaya or Kolarov, the ball was still in Liverpool's half, with most of their players in defensive positions behind the ball.
Milner made a similar mistake on three occasions, but we never capitalised.

That is essentially the problem for me. Both in possession and not in possession we were playing with intensity earlier in the season. We have done sporadically in the last couple of months and look great when we have but don't for the most part and look so so ordinary. So the question is, why? Are the players fucked, are they just not doing what they are being told or is Pep telling them to not press and to knock it around without purpose when we have the ball? I can't imagine Pep is telling them to play without intensity but then at the start of the season I expected that if players dropped off their intensity, he'd go apeshit. I don't see that from him though and some players who are strolling around are getting picked week in week out, I thought they would pay the price no matter what their reputation.
