Liverpool takeover

He apparently predicted Benitez move to Italy two weeks before the announcement.

WOW, I don't think anyone could have possibly predicted that...

If I had a pound for every Liverpool takeover rumour I be able to take them over myself.

Lol, exactly mate

I'll believe it when I see it but I can't see this happening.

I doubt any of the Gulf royal families will want to risk upsetting Sheikh Mansour and I really doubt any Abu Dhabi based consortium would have the balls to put themselves in direct competition with the Sheikh's little project and upsetting his plans for City and the exposure he is hoping to generate (which is what a strong Liverpool would do).

If I was a football investor i'd look at Spain, pick up a middling La Liga team, invest a decent amount of money, negotiate an individual TV contract after some suceess - and watch the dosh come rolling in.

None of the Al-Nahyan brothers would need a consortium to buy Liverpool, but a consortium that intends to buy Liverpool might need the Al-Nahyans as none of the banks would touch a deal like this right now.
And I believe it's highly unlikely that any of the Al-Nayhan family would effectively challenge one of their own so I'm distinctly dubious.

You have no reason to doubt your mate, i have, he's talking nobbies nutz.
No Arab worth any salt will take us on, in effect we sit at the very top of the camel and if one wants to drink from the well one must be prepared to go thirsty.

Not a prayer skippy

Jesus if he only knew Benitez was going to Inter 2 weeks before than he is pretty shit, i think nearly everyone knew before Mourinho even left them

-- Tue Jun 22, 2010 9:15 am --

You would have to invest about 1 billion pounds to get anywhere near Madrid or Barca, i think sevilla finished 3rd about 30 points behind them last season. La Liga is a closed shop!!

The only possibility of this being true as I see it is if there have been (in Abu Dhabi) an agreement within the Al-Nahyan family that it´s a bit unfair that only the Bani Fatima branch of the family got a club..The other major fraction is the Bani Khalifa.

But it´s a can of worms..conflict of interests within the family, within the league and no one outside the Al-Nahyan family really knowing what instructions that are given the club executives in regards to say transfers or whatever.

Three things you need to understand:

(1) the Al-Nahyans are not the only royal family in the gulf

(2) City was bought for the benefit of Abu Dhabi not just for the benefit of the Bani Fatima

(3) The Saudis for example would not think twice about challenging Abu Dhabi over football (or anything else for that matter)
