Liverpool terror attack

By the media presumably? Don't recall the driver bigging himself up.
The mayor didn’t help:

"Joanne Anderson, the mayor of Liverpool, confirmed to BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the taxi driver involved prevented an "awful disaster" through heroic actions.
She said it was known he had got out of the car and locked the doors before the explosion happened - but she did not want to get drawn into further speculation."

His fellow drivers and "sources" and politicians up to the Prime Minister repeated tales.

Plus a lot of money raised on the back of it.

I have heard these hero stories before that fall flat at the Coroner's Court.

So the main story is that the cabbie isn’t a hero?

Seems an odd thing to dwell on.

Interesting comparison to comments on the Cancelo attack thread.

Suicide bomber inside your car vs thugs giving you a black eye and a cut.

To be honest, I know how the cabbie got his injuries, but I’m wondering how Cancelo got his. Surely, when faced with 4 intruders, he simply said, “Take whatever you want, just let me take my family to safety and leave you to it.”

I’m sure the full story will come out, and maybe it’s the gun culture here, but if I was caught on the hop in my house, I know that’s what I’d do!

“Please, let us go upstairs out of your way and leave you to it. You’ve already tripped the silent alarm, so you’ve only got about 3-5 more minutes so hurry up and leave.”

Re Cancelo. Intruders who have forced their way into a house and not normally kind and considerate. Further, if you really believe your last paragraph .....Well all I will say is no chance.

Hang om

In another thread didn't you say you had a gun in locked box next to the bed and if anyone broke in you would dirty harry them (not the sexual meaning) and blow them away.

Or was that another poster from the states

Details are important.

That was me.
I spoke to him being surprised by them downstairs.
In Illinois, there is no Castle Doctrine, so there is no reflexive right to use deadly force.

And, yes, were we to be in bed and hearing people rummaging downstairs, we would assemble in my son’s room (thus checking the person(s) were not family members) and anyone who came into that room would (after checking their identity) be dealt with with extreme prejudice.

I don’t see anything in conflict with my previous words, esp if I lived in a leafy Cheshire suburb!
