Liverpool Thread 2012/13

Re: The truth at Anfield.

I'd like to know how people assume that Liverpool fans are so knowledgeable? Where does this come from and how is it measured as you hear it constantly from the media as well as the scousers theirselves.

Is there a knowledge barometer built into Anfailed?

-- Tue Nov 13, 2012 5:14 am --

I honestly believe that if liverpool spend £50-60 million in January they might well finish in the top half of the table....

I'll have 5gms of whatever you're on please.

Re: The truth at Anfield.

Depth is their issue. A midfield of Sahin, Gerrard and Allen is better than Carrick/Cleverley and Anderson. They need a proper replacement for their left side or someone like Zab who can play both. Instead of buying Bornini they should have opted for a midfielder anchor or wide player.

------------------Reina----------------
Johnson-----Skrtel---Agger----Enrique
-----------------Rodwell---------------
----Gerrard/Allen------Sahin----------
Sinclair---------Suarez-----------Sterling

For all of their purchases they could have just bought our two squad players.

Re: The truth at Anfield.

Rodgers is a fraud. He doens't have a philosophy, he's neve rput his own stamp on a team and made them better. He didn't pull any trees up at Reading or Watford. Swansea had all of the setup in place and, in fairness to him, he did well with them. However, we've seen Paul Jewell take Bradford up and keep them there and also do the same with Wigan and do better than Swansea did before ultimately keeping them in the league the following season by the skin of their teeth.

Re: The truth at Anfield.

I dont mind Rodgers and I'm glad he has the balls to come out and state the obvious as opposed to a Mark Hughes style 'we'll come good in the seconod half of the season' bullshitter.

Problem is they have very expensive deadwood there, Downing and Joe Cole are on a decent wage as well as Gerard who has seen better days.

They seem to be trying to develop young players as I dont think they can attract top class players unless they offer decent wages (which I dont think John Henry will do). I can seem them turning into an Arsenal style selling club even if they do kick on with Sterling, Suarez and Suso the first to go.

Re: The truth at Anfield.

Its hard to know what to make of Liverpool. I don't think a couple of additions are necessarily likely to cause very much improvement, because I think they are already playing to their maximum. They may sign a player of 2 but are they going to get anyone 'top drawer?' Very unlikely imho.
The majority of their team are already playing to their maximum, and I believe that, even though they haven't won many games so far, they still have their bad spell to come. They have a shower of expensive shit reerves they won't be able to move on for any money.
Talk of them making a mistake in not signing another forward before loaning out Carroll is fair comment, but, the reality is that - judging from his record - they were probably right to get rid of Carroll anyway due to the nfact that he hasn't scored for West Ham yet and was hardly getting a look in at Liverpool before he went.
I thought Liverpool would have done much better under Rogers but they've gone backwards and wasted even more money - £15m on Joe Allen; Borini hasn't contributed, nor Sahin yet. Gerard is yet to have his 3 month injury lay off. Pepe Reina is on the decline. They've still got Glen Johnson. How envious of Everton some of the supporters must be.

Just a comment on that. Felani is carrying the Everton team, just as Gerrard did for years at Liverpool
I think Liverpool's greatest hope now is that Suarez has a great season but decides he's had enough of referees giving him a hard time and decides he's off. Liverpool receive a substantial amount and invest wisely
All ifs and buts

That Raheem Sterling reminds me of Darren Huckerby

Re: The truth at Anfield.

That Moron Dalglish would never have admitted that so fairplay to Rodgers.

Although this is the job where Brendan really proves himself because I dont buy into this "Philosophy" lark because people never mention the work De Sousa and Martinez did at Swansea before him. Martinez has carried it on at Wigan can Rodgers recreate it at Liverpool whilst getting results?

To be fair, they have a lot of time to sit around studying the game. They are also very knowledgable about The Jeremy Kyle Show.

Yeah, they picked the wrong manager in the summer, they should have pushed the Martinez option a little harder, with the budget and players he's had at Wigan he's done extremely well to keep them a Premiership side for as long as he has.
