They are buying Markovic too from Benfica it looks like!

Which will mean either Shaqiri or Sanchez won't be going.

Sanchez will come if Barcelona decide to get Suarez and won't/don't pay the asking price. We have a stronger hand than last time because of the suspension, and extended contract on Suarez. I think Barcelona need the money so Sanchez will be off somewhere (seems every club other than Madrid and United are constrained by FPP, odd).

I don't want to see too many pieces changing, I actually wouldn't mind if initially all these signings started out on the bench first, but I like that they're being signed early rather than last minute like you lot did last summer.

How does the suspension give you a stronger hand?

I can't see much of a strong hand with his suspension:

The case for a strong hand:
1) If a club elects to do a deal now, but take him in January they could be getting a 'fresh' Suarez who also isn't CL cup tied (depending in the deal they do)

The case for a weak hand:
1) His disciplinary record will be used as a bargaining tool.
2) His current ban means a club taking him now will take a hit in lost games - that will drive the price down too.
3) There's the risk that once more offence will see a mega ban happen, and his new club is taking all that risk - another bargaining tool
4) If Liverpool get into negotiations, they'll have already shown their hand - that they want to get shut of him... again, a bargaining tool

In reality, we all know that just like Tevez and Balotelli, and even more so with Barton - once a player has discipline issues, it NEVER plays in favour of the selling club. It's a buyer's market in those cases. That's not to say they won't get a tasty price for him - they will, because it's a fantastic player, but it'll always be a harder bargain than if he didn't come with baggage.

It gives us a stronger hand versus Suarez if it's the club vs. Suarez i.e. if he starts a PR campaign to force a move.

And he has that long-term contract. It will take a big fee, I don't think it'll be a lowball sum in the end. If you're being offered "only" 30-40m might as well keep him, no?

(All of the above from a footballing perspective).

Not sure about that.
It's vaguely similar to us and Tevez, but only vaguely. The club ends up backed into a corner whether they like it or not, where the are worried what the next antic might be and the press it's creating.

The difference with Suarez is that his ability is a massive 'keep' for Liverpool. It was never going to be easy to replace Tevez, but Aguero was a decent handover. But a like for like replacement for Suarez is almost impossible. But still, the 'threat' of another incident looms over Liverpool, and thus, I think for a good price, he'll go. I dont think anyone will get him for a steal - he's still considered by many to be just behind Messi and Ronaldo, but I think if someone tabled 60 million cash, Liverpool might blink. They'd have got 80 million right up until the incident, so maybe LIverpool MIGHT think if they can keep him one more year without incident they can get his price back up to 80 or so?

Maybe I'm wrong and someone will just come in with 80m anyway and not be too worried about his disciplinary record. But every club is being a little bit more careful with money these days, even the super clubs. I think they'll expect 'hassle free' for 80m

Heard a story on Talksport about some Irish cyclists who had done a charity bike ride to raise money for the Hillsborough families. Well they only went and left their bikes unattended outside Annfield and never guess what happened, they were only knicked. You could not make it up.

That story has already been peddled as a separate thread buddy.
