Mario is probably one of the best penalty takers in the world. It's the only part of his game where he is in fact world class but still the dippers are moaning about it cos it's not the "Liverpool way". I hope the next time he gets one he just smashes it into the stands.

I hope next time they get one, and Mario is on the pitch, someone else takes it and misses.

I hope they never get another one, but with a team of diving, cheating twats that's highly unlikely.

Mario is disrespecting Dipperdom according to pundit Stevie G, imagine if he's missed that pen!

And what would have happened if Henderson had missed?

The world would have blamed Mario for putting extra pressure on Henderson. Has Rodgers confirmed who was supposed to be taking that penalty? If it was Henderson then Mario was wrong to do what he did regardless of anything else. However, if it was Henderson then whoever has decided that Jordan fucking Henderson gets to take important penalties ahead of Mario should be sacked for being a stupid twat.

I think it was Henderson out of the starters, but no instructions were given for subs. Water under the bridge, the only semi-controversial thing was Gerrard's macho posturing in the studio .

OTOH, while not good for the dressing room, Gerrard's "macho posturing" is entertaining for viewers and for the press. I don't want newscasters or players whitewashed into mindnumbing boringness. I have a general high tolerance for antics and charactesr in our sports (for example I'm against carding for goal celebrations).

They really are trying to mould him into the next Gerrard, despite Gerrard still being better than him at 35

Not as a box-to-box midfielder.

On set-pieces, versatility and finishing sure.

Every time I hear that "Liverpool Liverpool" chant it makes my scrotum lurch upwards. It's the most mind crippling sound I have ever heard.
Or Jamie Carragher screeching away on the box (his take on the Arsenal player, Ozzle, is interesting). To be fair to him, he isn't the worst pundit out there, not by a long way (stand up messrs Savage, Chuckle the younger and anyone on ITV).It's just a shame he has to open his gob to put across his views. Can he not do it in a Bob Dylan stylee, complete with big cards?

Weird character, Balotelli.

For a man who has spent most of his career perfecting the art of looking like someone who couldn’t care less about the togger, then his desperation to get his hands on the ball for the penalty last night all seemed a bit odd.

(As I heard someone say about him on local radio the other day, he looks like one of the few players who actually can’t wait for his career to finish. A bit depressing really).

That said, he played well when he came on last night – and offered that something ‘a bit different’ that we were crying out for – as he has done in the last couple of games, to be fair. Maybe there’s a player in there somewhere, after all….though I won’t be holding my breath just yet.

I think Henderson did well to diffuse the whole situation last night both on and off the pitch though. I like Henderson – good player - and displays all the required attributes of being a captain in waiting.

Gerrard really should have followed this lead in his post-match interview, and kept his opinions to himself whilst on national TV – got the distinct impression he was fuming about it when I watched it back this morning actually - but I didn’t necessarily disagree with too much that he said all in all.

A good result in the end last night in what was a hard fought victory.

Up the reds!

First bit in bold, you clearly don't know anything about Balotelli, he has always and will always be the first person to grab the ball when your team win a penalty while he's on the pitch. It would've been odd if he actually hadn't grabbed the ball.

Second bit in bold I disagree with as well, I personally thought Henderson lacked the bottle to use his authority as captain. He wanted to take the penalty but wasn't strong enough to take the ball off Balotelli despite Sturridge telling him 4 or 5 times to go and take the ball. Man or mouse situation and he chose to be a mouse.
