Liverpool thread 2018/19

You are overwhelmingly referring to a 26 year period over the course of significantly more than a century, within which Liverpool were unquestionably imperious. My point, although arguably deficiently advanced in my previous post, is that over the course of that 100 years, for the vast majority of that time, 60 years at a guess, you’ve been ordinary, and lacking any real, or meaningful threat.

I state this not to belittle your club’s achievements, which were incredible from the mid-sixties to the late eighties, but to serve as a reminder that success, status and influence in football can be fleeting, and anyone who ascribes the title “nothing club” to a football institution that was formed in 1894, and has as much a story to tell as any other club, not only defiles that club, but every committed fan of any other club that just wants the club they support to be everything it can.

When Liverpool fans describe City in those terms (not saying you do btw) they defile so many other clubs by implication, which goes some way to explain why so many ‘neutrals’ want City to win the league.

History isn’t ultimately about trophies, it’s about people feeling that what they’ve invested in the past provides some sort of reward in the future; and there are no set of supporters in football who invested more in their club, relatively speaking, than Cty fans of a certain vintage.

We’ve got the stripes, and deserve every minute of what we’re now experiencing; and no Liverpool ‘fan’ from Bedford, who’s been to Anfield three times, and never had to properly dig deep as a supporter, can even begin to tell me otherwise.

Post of the millenium.

Bit of an overreaction to what I wrote there.

I wasn't saying they didn't have many years of success, they obviously did. I was simply saying 26 years is giving them a bit too much credit, it was more like mid 70s onwards they dominated instead of mid 60s as was suggested. I thought it was obvious what I meant by 7 different champions in those 10 years, means Liverpool were not yet the dominant force.

So more like 16 years, that's still a long time for one team to be way ahead of everyone else, in fact it had never happened before to that extent.

Your point about them being dominant for more like 16 years than 26 years was totally obvious in your original post.

Mate, things have turned sour between the two sets of fans since what happened at Anfield last season, re the bus attack. The fact that it all got swept under the carpet pissed loads of blues off, and nastiness has continued to the present day. I personally never had much beef with Liverpool because you hated the rags as much as us, but things have changed somewhat, you seem ok though but just continue posting decent stuff and you'll be fine.
Their general sense of entitlement pissed me off long before the bus incident.
Being c.unts to Sterling upset a lot of us as well.
Football royalty, my arse.

Like this forum, been lurking for a while.

However, I don't know why you have such a bad opinion of Liverpool and fans, unless it's just the general twitter consensus of divs.

Most Liverpool fans, like me, hugely respect city and have been bigging them up for the past two seasons. The anfield wrap podcast always talk about how good city and pep are.

Anyway, my point is, don't think all LFC fans are the trolls off the internet cause they arent.

Obviously I want Liverpool to win the league, but if not, it's because city were better and are a great side.

Here's to a few more years of the rivalry, hopefully
Anfield Wrap have to admit we are the best team in the country but are nothing more than a bunch of patronising Muppets when it comes to our club and support base. All the jolly forced laughter as they talk about the 'champions elect' after beating a bunch of relegation candidates is usually replaced by a sombre funeral atmosphere after a City win and reality takes a huge bite out of their arses.

I’d argue instead that they are the Scientologists of football.

Jehovah’s Witnesses wouldn’t brick a coach in support of their cult. Scientologists most definitely would — and then when accused would claim they are being “persecuted” because of their “religion”.
Fair point - what's the next one up from Scientology?

That's them ;-)

You might not be far off the mark with that prediction.
Was reading a article by Graham Hunter the other day who knows his Spanish football, and he was saying all Liverpools strengths directly related to Barca weaknesses.
I would say as well that Ajax are exactly the sort of team that the dippers struggle with, good in possession like us but move the ball forward a bit quicker so the dippers press is less likely to be so effective.
The same Graham Hunter who laughed at the Pep going to City claims and said he was nailed on for the rags?
