Pre-season is meaningless.

They'll be our closest rivals I feel. They've strengthened well. Would have liked Fabinho.
Won't be meaningless when their full side dick our reserves in a glorified friendly. I can see the sky sports ticker as I type.

They've definitely got a squad to compete now and will have no excuses if they don't win anything.

Only weak link is the keeper. Although it would be interesting to see how they'd fare with injuries to the likes of Salah and Van Dijk. We've always had to carry on with injuries to key players and that's usually the test of champions.

They are going to make up 25 points? No chance. They will be lucky to get one point closer to City.

As @citykev28 has said, it's a new season and there won't be a gap of 25 points to start with.

They've improved their squad a lot and I'd expect them to challenge heavily. We're an excellent team but it's extremely unlikely that we're going to get 100 points again.

They don’t need to make up 25 points. We’ll both start on zero in August.
Exactly, this nonsense that other teams have to make up over 20 points is ridiculous.
Every club start on zero points and imo it'll be much tougher this season coming

And so it should be as we are the first ever centurion champions

That should make everyone want to beat us. Every game will be a cup final especially away from home.

This could help us as teams attack.

Did last season not teach you anything? Teams will just shut up shop as they did last year. Stop dreaming.

Unless you buy into the theory that last season's league table was a reflection of the playing potential of the clubs!

The intangibles like injuries, commitment, form etc mean that we can not guarantee that we will perform as well again but league tables everywhere don't change that much from season to season. The teams that dominate La Liga for example are largely the same from one season to the next.

City finished 19 points above the nearest challenger because last season we were considerably better than anyone else. The scale of our victory does suggest that the other sides have a big job to catch us. Of course there are no guarantees and Champions tend to find it difficult to defend their title but I'd be more confident this City side defending their title than one that won their league title on goal difference.

That would mean Cardiff are as likely to win the title as Liverpool?

Why would it, we all start on zero points, we don't don't start on +25 points and other teams have to catch us.
Last season is history, means nothing at all once this season starts

But there does need to be a 25% point swing from last season. That would require a catastrophic collapse in form from City or an astonishing improvement in Liverpool's form. I simply do not see either of those things happening.

Whacko FC may well have the same problem this season as they had last. Klopp's style involves winning the ball back quickly and counter-attacking at speed. They manifestly failed at this against teams that sit deep and allow them possession without giving them space behind. Unless they come up with an effective Plan B, they'll carry on dropping stupid points.
