@Mods - I think I know the answer, but feel obliged to ask anyway:
Any chance we could have two Liverpool threads for the coming season? One for football and one for discussing their fans and club? Last season any talk of the actual football was well and truly lost in a tsunami of other posts.

Pretty please...
Good shout that.
I've lost all interest in their fans.
Problem is, someone will start talking footie, then the fan thing automatically kicks in.

Liverpool’s defence & attack are on par with ours, their midfield is fuckin shocking!! million miles behind ours, they are the prem lg’s version of england
We have a least double the amount of attackers and they are much better !!

Anyway 80 seconds

1 point

11mm

And whatever the goaline clearance was

That is all you need to say

I'll give my Liverpool view on the upcoming season, from a pure football perspective.

It's clear that Liverpool has adapted a more controlled approach to the all-out gegenpressing from the 17/18 season. And while pretty much all stats have improved from the season before, the 1 point gap (compared to city) is flattering, to say the least. Liverpool had luck in some decisive matches, while City got stuck by lightning both by Wolves and Newcastle. The chance (or risk, around here) that Liverpool will have the same fortune and city will have the same misfortune, is hardly something Liverpool can hope for.

There has to be a few additions, for Liverpool to be able to bridge the gap:
1) Alternative to Trent. It's easy to get caught up in the hype, but before December he was abysmal. I'd say he was Liverpool's worst player. And still, when he got injured in January the impact was colossal. Liverpool must have another speedy alternative, that can pin opponents in a defensive shape.
2) Penetration in the middle. This was Klopp's thing when he was @Dortmund. He switched sides and used the wings (like Liverpool do now), but he always had players that could break lines and penetrate in the middle. Often Liverpool are too easy to read, with the ball going from side to side with no threat from Wijnaldum, Henderson, Fabinho or Milner. Ox will be like a new signing, but will it be enough?
3) Alternative to the front three. Salah and Firmino had some pretty significant dips in form, and with the kind of midfield Liverpool have it becomes really troublesome when one wing loses it's edge. Shaq isn't an alternative, and Origi is not good enough. City can rotate the front three when they need, both to rest and to adapt to opponents. Liverpool will need at least one quality addition.
Happy New Season Drubas.

My view is that Liverpool FC have to be a powerhouse, a 'bastion of invincibility'.

To do that, they need another right back, centre half, number 10 (Coutinho type), and a centre forward.

If FSG are serious, and will back Klopp with another say £150-175m, then you could say they will be in with a chance of winning the League Cup and FA Cup.

If not, then Klopp bums those cups off again, concentrates on the PL and Liverpool remain with the rank and file.

Is there really a chance Van Dijk can win the ballon dor? He wasnt even Liverpool’s Best player. Mane was better.
There is something about VVD that I've noticed, which he could do with sorting out.

He has it all. Powerful in the air and on the ground, pace, good reader of the game and good all round footballer.

There is just a bit of nonchalance, where he points a finger, and relaxes off as if it's all too easy for him. He then gets caught out positionally, but has been getting away with it.

A player like Tevez would be his worst nightmare.
A strong, fast, scratchy bull of a player, who would give him no peace.

It will be interesting to see if teams have a go at City and Liverpool.
If they don't, then Liverpool will drop more points again with too many draws, especially at home

So.

I was reading an old thread and I posted this at the time. Certainly brought yet another smile to my face!
Torres to Chelsea.

Torres:

"It's every footballers dream to play for a big club and I can finally do that now"

Hahahahahahaha.

Where's your history, Liverpool?

Perhaps a Liverpool abuse thread aswell

Did you see the video of the Everton fans singing? "You nearly won the league" "You nearly won the league"

A lot of Everton fans believe that the lost point dropped at Goodison meant Everton won City the league, what are your thoughts?

Hopefully your fans will have a bit more respect in coming season, the City player bus attack was one of the lowest fan moments I can remember! The hatred between the set of fans because of your fans behaviour has really gone up a notch. You are now clearly the most hated set of fans in the league!

Liverpool are available at 13/5 which seems very high to me, If you signed De Ligt, a quality midfielder and VAR does it's job you'll be difficult to beat

The dippers keep banging on about us not being their rivals. Which is a pretty accurate observation as the last time they finished above us in the league was a decade ago in 2009. Lesley Hughes was manager and we had such talents as Ched Evans, Danny Sturridge and Wayne Bridge lining up for us.

You are right you are not our rivals.

Everton supporters were also singing, "You lost the league at Goodison!" on the last day.

I forgot Jo how the fuck can you forget Jo. Last time Liverpool finished above us in the league Pablo Zabaleta had hair, Vincent Kompany was a young promising centre mid, Oasis were still a band and Labour were in power. Where did the decade go eh Lah?

And we potentially had Glauber?

That’s the one, Ireland was superman, Elano wasn’t good enough for Hughes and Wayne Bridge was yet to find out John Terry had fingered his mrs. Heady days, heady heady days.

One thing with Liverpool that year though, they nearly won the league. Least they are consistent.
