I would say that it is because that team were denied the opportunity to cement their dominance because of a European Ban they were subjected to because of the behaviour of your feral followers.
Lineker was signed and only stayed one season because he couldn't play in Europe. Gary Stevens and Trevor Steven went to Rangers for European football then Howard Kendall left for Atletico Bilbao again because of the European Ban.
The ban also damaged their ability to recruit players as well as keeping the ones they had which hampered their ability to cement their position and progress further.
It's all supposition and we will never know but hypothetically if English clubs had been banned 10 years earlier, can you honestly say that your lot would have kept hold of Bob Paisley as manager and signed players like Hansen, Dalglish and Souness and kept them for so many years?

Lineker signing for Barca was nothing to do with being out of Europe. The deal was done six months before it happened and was nothing more than a player using a club as a stepping stone to go to a bigger one.Remember, he was only at Everton for 12 months and shot the lights out, he scored about 40. Every big club in Europe were showing interest. But as for anybody else jibbing it off for European football, why didn’t any of our players do that? Rush was sold because we were broke and the fact that Inter and Juve had been sniffing around for a while. Meanwhile we formed one of our best ever teams who picked up big pots. None of them were in a hurry to jump ship for European football. It remains that the Everton being banned from Europe killed them myth is just that, it’s a myth.
And for the record, I’m happy to have footy chat like this all day. No snide remarks from anyone, just good old footy talk.

How can anyone who claims to be a genuine and knowledgeable Liverpool fan who lives in the City come up with such a humongous whopper?

As I said at the time, I’ve been made to look like a complete tool here. I took my medicine in many, many verbal forms on here and then carried on. The difference here is that I don’t have the right of reply that others do when it comes to the more personal jibes because when I have, the other posters go crying to the mods. So I just stick to the footy chat, keep things in that area and stay around the sensibly toned posters.
