Just a theory I'd like to test out on you. Last night, I watched the match on French television. They did a little piece before the match as to whether ‘neutrals’ wanted City or Liverpool to win the league. They did brief, very superficial, interviews with people, in what appeared to be some sort of café, in London, I would have said, going on the accents. The majority opted for Liverpool. In Europe, by the way, Liverpool are loved by anyone who hasn't had to actually deal with them. That's been my experience. French journalists, and I suspect Spanish, Italian, German ones, have no idea whatsoever that “You'll never walk alone” was not originally a Liverpool song, and certainly wasn't exclusively their song through the sixties.
Here's the thing. My firm conviction is that, among people who don't support a follow a football club in England, who just sort of watch the game casually, on tv, who don't have any deep knowledge of the game, and certainly no real knowledge of its more-than-a-hundred-year old history, a majority like Liverpool and generally want them to win both in Europe and England. Without being aware of it, they've bought into the relentless bigging up of good old LFC by the press and media, along with how tragic Hillsborough was (without there ever – and I mean ever – being any mention of Heysel by that same press and media). I've got a friend who answers exactly to that description. He doesn't attend matches and isn't really what I would call a football fan. As I say, he just casually watches matches on a screen from time to time. He says he likes Liverpool, with no particular explanation. He's never been anywhere near Anfield, of course, or even set foot in the city of Liverpool, as far as I know. He's certainly never had to walk across Stanley Park as an opposing supporter at 5 pm after full time, watching his back like a hawk for a brick being hurled into it.
But my equally firm conviction is that amongst proper supporters of other clubs there is an almost universal hatred for Liverpool, because they've had actual contact with Liverpool fans and have had direct experience of what they're like. We're obviously resented among many of those fans, we know why, although many will concede that the older City fans they've met are sound; but there's a special and unique level of hatred for LFC. I don't have a single mate who actually knows his football, whichever club he supports, who doesn't intensely dislike Liverpool. And I don't think they're saying it for my benefit.
I can confirm they are not loved in Italy, far from it judging by some or the graffiti you will see around various Citys

Have to agree with you. I think it depends on how much of a "hardened" football follower you are. For those who follow their team regularly, go to games home and away the feelings are stronger and based on experience and dealings on football and non game related matters.

I reckon so much comes down to or can be credited to that old clip that is played every so often of the Kop singing "She Loves You", back in 1964. the cheeky scouse folk embracing their local heroes. Makes it and them all seem so lovely...whereas most on here havent been suckered into that view.
The Tumblr/Twitter fans who treat football like a TV show and support three teams in the PL, plus a Bundesliga/La Liga team, are a world away from the kind of fans who actually go to matches and stuff. And yes, most neutrals I know who do actually follow football hate Liverpool, one Geordie excepted.

I don't know if Liverpool fans in the UK are as bad as Millwall but they definitely act like utter Neanderthals abroad.

When the crown lands on our head and the news hits candlepool, the candles will be lit and it isn't their fault.

AGAIN!!

It will definitely be Judgement Day!

If we win on Sunday I reckon Klopp will instruct his players to draw at Southampton to slightly ruin the title celebrations he's that big of a prick
Not sure about that. There is nothing I would like more than to get up on Sunday morning ,have a few pints in town, before setting off for the ground already champions . It will not spoil my day.

My old fella and mum went Whitby on Monday so went into a pub on Wednesday to watch the Wolves match, Leeds fans in all wanted Liverpool to win the league
Dad said to woman he sat next to who she supports, she said nobody but she doesn’t want City to win it
He thought fuck this I’m not staying in here watching the cunts cheer if wolves score so went home and watched it on the iPad

But worse than the Scousers - BY A FUCKING MILE - are the non-Scouse Liverpool fans. They are the most moronic set of weirdos on this island. Theyre honestly even worse than the non-Manc Rags. I’ve always found it utterly impossible to have a reasonable conversation with any of them. They can’t hold a football conversation without pushing a narrative of how amazing anything and everything is about LFC, or without them belittling City or anyone and everyone else but LFC.

Totally agree, but I find that to be also so with rag fans. I can actually have a reasonable conversation about football with some rag fans, if they're mancs. But almost never if they're not mancs and they've never been anywhere near Manchester in their lives. Perhaps my contempt for them unconsciously comes through, and things escalate from there.
Used to watch matches at the local Irish pub in the town I lived in. You'd see people turn up for the City-Liverpool matches and really give it the big one. You would literally never see them again, even on the days when Liverpool happened to be playing someone else. Easily the gobbiest fans, and particularly those who were clearly not scousers. Rivalled only – but at some distance – by Spurs fans for sheer gobbiness.
Rag fans are somewhat less boisterous than they used to be in pubs. That's my experience, anyway. I wonder why that is?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. That Coutinho money is like a fucking everlasting gobstopper with some of that lot. Well fuck 'em - I'm going to be living off the back of the Torres money for all our transfers over the next 10 years if any of those cunts mention the Coutinho money again!
I might be wrong, according to transfermarket.com, he was bought for £12 mil, I think he stayed 4 seasons for 80k a week (estimated) so that is £28,640,000 combined fee and wages.
Sold for £120 mil, take off his costs, leaves £91,360,000. VVD was bought for £75 mil, been her 4 seasons at 150k a week (estimated), so combined VVD has cost them £106,620,000. So buying VVD alone are at a £14,840,000 nevermind all this coutinho money bought x,y,z.
