When we played them in January they were in the middle of a run of 13 games where they only got beaten once.

They're now in a run where they've won just one of their last 12 matches.

Obviously form doesn't override everything, but it would have been a major shock if they'd got out of that rut against Liverpool.
It would have been a huge shock but to me they never even tried to create that shock ..........at 2-1 down just go out and have a go I’m sure the saints fans wouldn’t have cared if it would have ended 3 or 4 -1 so long as they where having a go at it

Fucking hell, the lack of self awareness in that article is astonishing...
All they want to do is try and erase what they did in 85 by putting out articles like that .......... the FACT remains them twats murdered innocent people and then twats denied the likes of Wimbledon and Luton there chance of European action and then twats should never be allowed to forget what they did to English football ........... we all have to remember Hillsborough and rightly so .......... so why do these bastards try and swerve Heysel 85 ???????

Easier said than done. They had 70% possession after 85 minutes, but if you can't get the ball, you can't get the ball. I bet loads of teams would love to try and have a few shots against City, but we know how hard it can be to grab control from us, and Liverpool aren't far off that.

I’m with Bantamgaz on this. From what I saw, they never engaged LiVARpool up front, never pressed so time and again the Dippers strolled into the Soton half and then the ball retention and crosses will result in the inevitable.
Maybe they were scared that the cultists would play through the press which of course they might have done but without Salah and Diaz there was a lack of pace there which should have encouraged Saints to take the risk.
But hi him, it’s gone.
Let’s just beat Villa and put it to bed

It also has to be said that obviously apart from the actual victims at the event, Everton FC paid a huge price.
That Everton side was absolutely fantastic, one of the best ever and had they gone into the European Cup the following year I think they had every chance of winning it. That could have been the catalyst that they needed to become one of the most powerful clubs in England.

Its this lack of respect for everyone else, i.e. victims, local police, other clubs, national reputation etc that I find so unforgivable. They genuinely don't give a shit about anyone else... It could even be argued that Heysel was a major factor in the dehumanisation of football supporters that ultimately led to what happened at Hillsborough 4 years later.

Scouse not English... FFS I wish we could cut around it and float the fucking place across the sea...

Back in the early 80s a mate of mine lived near a house in Radcliffe that was owned by a dipper. The whole house on the outside was painted red and white and there was a ‘This is Anfield’ plaque by the front door. They’ve always been a weird bunch.

Not sure weird is the word tbh, more like utter complete toss pots (OK thats four), but it's only sport

“You shouldn’t use the deaths of people to get back at another club on any level so when you hear certain chants, or read things on social media, you want to come back with the facts."

luckily for liverpool, they've never sung anything ever about munich. i wish every fan base could be as perfect as they are.
Right, yeah, I must have missed the Steaua Bucharest banners at Everton matches and the hilarious japesters on Twitter calling themselves things like Stu A Bucharest.

I read it as... We aren't sorry for Heysel as it wasn't our fault...

I watched it live on TV and any Liverpool fan that denies what they did that night is delusional. That **** Hooton can fuck right off.
Hooton appeared to be speaking through the very narrow prism of how he behaved on the day. That’s all well and good but it’s piss poor to talk like that over a tragedy of this magnitude and he certainly shouldn’t be broadcasting it in public. He then goes on to blame everyone else - mainly UEFA and the authorities - for allowing the match to be played in a dilapidated stadium. And while there is some culpability there, personally I think this is a moot point. If anything, my own belief is that the stadium being in such a state of disrepair actually prevented more deaths. Why? Well, if that wall hadn’t collapsed then 39 deaths may have turned into 390 deaths.

I see Hooton also downplays the behaviour of Liverpool fans in Brussels on the day of the game. Again, he seems to just be talking about what he himself witnessed because by all accounts there was widespread disorder throughout the day and Liverpool fans were the main instigators. Even that dickhead Tony Evans admits he and many other Liverpool fans behaved like cunts that day. Perhaps Hooton should compare notes with him.
