The benefit is that any delay gets them closer to the possible return of 3 key players from AFCON if their teams don't progress and/or get the League Cup semi final reduced to 1 game affecting their fixture congestion. It's not rocket science.
None of the three will play in either leg of the semi regardless. Assuming none of them advance (unlikely) Keita and Mane last play on the 18th and Salah on the 19th. They aren't going to fly back from Africa to the UK to play one/two days after their last match. So, not really seeing it?

If true, surely a cluster of false positives aren't likely to be independent events?

It's more likely a dodgy batch, or cross contamination, so a single event causing all the false positives.
I think this is very unlikely. ‘Cross contamination’ though is usually accidental and the Covid-19 tests are very reliable now.

League Cup semi final now on the 20th January. Egypt last game in AFCON 19th. Doubt Salah would travel and play in 24 hours but if they have no chance of advancing out of the group stages after the second game what is the chance of Klop lobbying for him to come home then. Senegal play game 3 on the 18th as is Keita's. If Egypt, Senegal and Guinea have no chance after round 2 I wouldn't be surprised to see them back.

It's not about Salah, Mane and Keita. Alisson, TAA, Firmino and one other player will be available for both legs. They were unavailable for the original fixture due to injury or actual Covid.

Hmm....

The 3 of them were not available for the 2 semis, after postponing the original game there is now an outside chance they could be available if their teams do badly at AFCON and Klop can exert pressure to get the players back early.

Because if they fill the gameweeks with LC fixtures they won’t have rescheduled Prem games in a period where their two best players aren’t available, that’s been the intention from the start, Klopp was moaning about fixture congestion etc then the Leeds game got cancelled & he was fuming but couldn’t say anything because of all the bitching he’d done, panic set in because they had several free midweek slots after the LC ties
