Liverpool Thread - 2021/22

Articles have been released on this (It's what was being discussed) so perhaps read one before jumping in blind?

This is the sequence of events as reported widely.

LFT - Positive

Liverpool petition for game to be postponed.

PCR Tests - Positive

Game is postponed.

LFT - Negative

Players still isolate for 5 days despite negative LFT.

Players come back. Klopp complains about false positives.
So basically they tested positive on PCR, then took an LFT some time later and tested negative because the tests are less sensitive by design, as has happened with millions of people (tens of millions maybe). But, because Klopp incorrectly used the phrase "false positives" while speaking in his third language in a post match press conference we're supposed to believe they've actually cheated ...in order to get a game in a competition they do not care about delayed for no discernible benefit?

No one else sees this entire thing as ridiculous?

Domalino declared that he believes, conveniently, that the version of events he asserts have been “reported widely” (though I’ve not once seen the facts/claims presented in such a manner in either the Daily Mail or The Athletic who sadly seem to be the only organisations with balls to touch this worrisome story) is, according to him, as follows:

LFT - Positive

Liverpool petition for game to be postponed.

PCR Tests - Positive

Game is postponed.

LFT - Negative”

I’ve read the Daily Mail article this afternoon stating no investigation will take place and they write: (typos their own, I’m copying verbatim):

“It is understood the club conducted a second round of PCR tests after when the Carabao Cup match have been held, and it was at that point that they concluded the first round of PCRs had contained a number of false positives.”

Make of that what you will, and do the math(s).

Just you and @domalino I think.

Klopp's command of English is good enough to understand what a false positive test means.

They care very much about this competition. They were beaten finalists just five years ago. They are joint highest winners of this cup, and they want to be clear leaders again. Also, we are their main barrier to winning things. This is their most realistic chance of silverware this season. They have a proven track record in this competition.

They have a proven track record as cheats, too. It is not really beyond the realms of credibility to consider that they might be cheating here again. It's hardly on the same level as flat earth believers or moon landing doubters.

Read it again.

LFT first - self/club administered; no lab involvement, 15 False positive results at approximately 1% chance of 'false positive for a single test if the test is administered correctly. The odds of 15 false positive LFT's is approximately 0.000000000000000000000000000086% (presuming the batch was not faulty, and we don't know and probably never will know if they were all from the same batch because there will be no investigation).

PCR - Self/club administered; lab tested - Negative, bar Alexander-Arnold.

They petitioned and got the game called off on the results off the results of first batch of SELF-ADMINISTERED LFT's.

I am confused by all this and what tests were taken on what day and whether they were PCR or LF. Has Klipperty suggested that the PCR or the LFT tests returned positive results and if so what did they then do to double check. As people on here have already said the odds of so many false positives is so huge then surely alarm bells would have been ringing and the first thing I would do would be to repeat the tests. Can anyone on here give a definitive timeline?

If true, surely a cluster of false positives aren't likely to be independent events?

It's more likely a dodgy batch, or cross contamination, so a single event causing all the false positives.

The benefit is that any delay gets them closer to the possible return of 3 key players from AFCON if their teams don't progress and/or get the League Cup semi final reduced to 1 game affecting their fixture congestion. It's not rocket science.
