So how does France attract more tourists than the UK?

Seriously? Anyway, that isn't the question. The question is if there would be more or less tourism to the UK if there was no royal family. I don't know the answer and I don't really care.

But why does France attract more tourists than the UK? Come on .....

The only real reason for having them is if the monarchy is abolished you arseholes in the UK will be voting Ant and Dec for president. You know it's true.

At best it would be just another layer of incompetent politicians. Two layers is enough for me.

Then again, I don't live there so it's nothing to do with me. Just be careful what you wish for and think it through properly first.
Indeed, our democracy functions relatively well without major constitutional issues.
A different set up such as a president would bring its own problems.
I'd still consider a pissed up Ant as a improvement against a touchy feely senile old coffin dodger.

Because people are allowed IN to the Palace of Versailles. Can you imagine how many more tourists the UK would get, and the extra revenue, if the monarchy was abolished and people were allowed to traipse through Buckingham Palace, Holyrood and Windsor?
Indeed,their popularity is clearly enduring.
"Off with their heads"

In our current system we have no need for any politicians to replace the monarchy.

We'd need to tweak a few things, but we don't need a president to replace them.

I’Ve been through Buck Palace and Windsor…
They are open to the public, as is Holyrood.
