If I'm not mistaken, I think he was also an Orangeman as well. Basically he was everything that the sanctimonious cunts in their fanbase claim to hate!

Ironically stability.

Predictable inputs and outputs. Might not make billions but won’t lose billions
 
Liverpool played their first match on 1 September 1892, a pre-season friendly match against Rotherham Town, which they won 7–1. The team Liverpool fielded against Rotherham was composed entirely of Scottish players – the players who came from Scotland to play in England in those days were known as the Scotch Professors.

This trend of Scottish players moving to England, along with professionalism generally, was bitterly opposed by much of the Scottish footballing establishment and media. The latter saw the Professors described as "Traitorous wretches" and "base mercenaries" in the press.

Seems that the dippers were ruining football 130 years ago! How's that for some "History"?

Good reminder.

Some years ago, I mentioned this during a conversation with a Liverpool supporting work colleague.

I also mentioned the facts that Everton actually played at Anfield first, while the top-johnny who ran the show in those days was actually a card-carrying, fully paid up member of the local 'Genghis Khan Party' (aka the Tories..) and not at all related to Keir Hardie et al.

He looked at me with a glazed expression, as though I'd suddenly started speaking Moon Language rather than English.

Then he almost combusted when I pointed out that City had won a European trophy years before his team did, also claiming a domestic and European trophy 'double' ahead of his beloved club.

And the thing was he wasn't that much younger than me, maybe six years, so he clearly hadn't paid attention along the way.

'Istry, eh?! It may be my favourite subject but I suppose, as Dylan sang, it ain't everyone's cup o' meat..

I don't see much financial stability in the football business in England. Maybe for City, as the best run business. Even that isn't guaranteed to continue. Maybe Newcastle soon as another well run business. That leaves 3 out of United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea missing out on CL income each year. Buying in at a high valuation in that environment is a risky business. Unless it isn't about return, of course, in which case not making much money, but not losing much money is acceptable. All imho, of course.

UEFA have already solved that with the new owner rule under which a new owner can spend virtually what he likes provided the business plan shows a return to profitability within 3 years. They introduced this to ease the takeovers of both Milan clubs. Had the rule been in existence in 2014, we would not have been in breach of ffp.
Milan clubs were, of course, members of G14.

The owner was reported to say to his recruiters: “Go out and get me the finest players in the country.”
The country turned out to be Scotland.

I don't know where we are with that, in all honesty. Is there somewhere I can read up on this "new owner" rule?
