Liverpool Thread | 2025/26

They battered the rags yesterday. Still our biggest rivals for me. But they need to start winning games or else it could be all done by Xmas and leave us and arsenal shooting it out
 
It feels wrong but I almost cheered when Maguire's header hit the net, as once they equalised, like everybody else I thought they'd go on to win it.
I hate both clubs and their fanbases there really isn't much to choose between how awful both of them are. Still seeing the misery on these faces gave me great joy I have to admit.

I still wouldn't rule them out of being contenders but they're looking a lot like us last season with teams cutting through them way too easily.

At least we had our reasons. Rodri missing, an ageing squad and injuries. It was just one season too many for us as we didn't strengthened the team.

They've supposedly strengthened and spent fortune but they look worse. That said, despite what they spent, Dick Van Dyke and Salah are still their most highly regarded players and it looks like Dick is on the slide and it looks like it was Salah's last hurrah last season. He looks away off it.

I hope they continue to fall away. If it ended up a title race between us and Arsenal, I'd fancy us all day.

isaak is another grealish , he is a good player but not worth what they paid and never will be, where he differs from grealish is that he wont get continually hounded from the media for not living up to the price tag. If city had signed a striker for 125m and theyd scored 1 in 7 there would be a loop on ssn about what a failure they had been.

We’ve got the best striker in the world and all they ever bang on about is how many touches he’s had

Me too. Simply because since Pep arrived we've adapted a stronger belief in ourselves. Before, in a tight game if the opposition scored our heads would go down and we'd reluctantly admit defeat. Under both Bobby and Pellers we toughened up a bit, had a lot more confidence and still went for it. This time we look upon it as a kick up the arse and we go all out to batter the opposition - look at how many wins from the jaws of defeat we've had under Pep.
Arsenal do not have that mindset: If they concede a goal they act as if it's some kind of a plot against them from some higher authority. They stand with hands on hips and look at one another as if to say 'That wasn't supposed to happen.'
They sulk and start committing silly little fouls, like spoiled children.

I've said for a long time now that Lego is not cut out for the rigours of being the man in the hot seat: he doesn't like to accept responsibility when things go wrong.
Fair play to him for giving it a shot, but I've not been impressed by him so far.

I hope they continue to fall away. I said before yesterday's game they'd regain form. I still think they will but not so sure to what extent now.
 
To me it the reason for them dropping away is obvious and I cannot (thankfully) see it being fixed

They were a team that pressed so effectively that they could afford to carry Salah - but they now have several players not pressing - Isak and Wirtz certainly don't.

I obviously run the risk of being embarrassed by this post - but for me - Slot does not seem to be up to the job of sorting this out and they need to be careful not be at risk of missing out on CL football next year

They should have got him in before anyone else. He was a bargain for the quality he has. They've prioritised the wrong areas which is surprising because it has been clear for a while how poor they are defensively. Scoring goals was never the issue.

As for the GK, 100%. Arsenal moved for Raya even having bought Ramsdale not long before, because they knew even a small gain in that area was fundamental to success. They decided to ignore their problem position up front though.

We're in with a shout this season purely because whilst the club didn't act post-treble/4 in a row, we soon learnt our lesson and strengthened the areas we needed to. We needed a refresh and we got it.

Arsenal should have got attacking players in sooner. Had they, not only could they have won the league last year - they'd have been much better this year too. The door is ajar for us if we can continue to improve.

It’s not just the new signings that have given us reason for optimism this term; some of those, who really struggled last season are looking back to their best, especially Phil, who after a slow start, is showing the class that we all know he possesses.

Rúben is also looking back to his best and Erling seems to be much more dangerous, if that’s possible. Joško too, is looking like the quality centre-back we all know he is, and is proving his worth in his preferred position, rather than as a makeshift full-back.

Nico O'Reilly is coming on in leaps and bounds as a left-back, considering he was being used as an attacking midfielder in the Academy sides. We haven’t missed Rayan Aït-Nouri at all, though the sooner he’s back the better.

I can see both these arsehole teams struggling in their next league games. Rags have Brighton at home and will not be up for a game against a smaller team. Dippers have Brentford away on Saturday at 8pm after an away game at Frankfurt in the week. Hoping for two losses but two draws would also be fine.

We started the season winning without playing well then from October to December couldn't buy a win.its not far fetched that the scousers could do something similar.

They have a istoreeee of that la. Klopps sides had a fall off after winning something from what I remember.
