It’s a myth that Milner was derogatory towards City.
Milner said in an in-house Liverpool interview, ‘Winning two titles at City, we had some good players, but as a team this is the best I’ve played in’.
He also mentioned something about the Liverpool team he was playing in had the best team spirit he’d ever played in (can’t find the quote).
Absolutely nowt wrong with saying either thing. It’s not even derogatory about City, it’s just being sycophantic to Liverpool/Lpool fans while he was at that club.
We plucked anything as an excuse to boo him in a retort to Lpool fans booing Sterling. I thought it was odd of us as a fanbase and I’ve given Milner a clap every time we’ve faced him since leaving when his name is read out before the game.
We’ve booed a number of other players, often for no reason n’all.
We booed Sturridge quite badly when he played for Chelsea and Lpool. All he did was leave because Hughes was playing Ched Evans ahead of him and Chelsea who were better than us at the time came in for him. He even didn’t celebrate when he scored against us (which I don’t actually like, get celebrating!).
We booed Dickov for celebrating scoring against us, who without we might still be in League 1.
We booed Distin and James for daring to leave us for a team higher up the league.
We booed Barton when he was still playing for us because he wouldn’t sign a new contract… he was a wanker though, even when he was with us he said his teammates were ‘substandard’, he battered Dabo in training and put a cigar out on Tandy’s eye at a Christmas do. So with him I can understand and I did boo him when he played against us for Newcastle.
Cancelo was booed when he was still our player, on loan at Bayern, and the truth hadn’t even come out about what had gone on with him at City… we just decided he was now the enemy.
We have treated some ex-players poorly with booing them when there was no reason to. Most sets of fans are similar across the board though, and we aren’t much different to any of them.
I think a number of our fans are treating Savinho poorly at the moment n’all.
What an absolute load of bollocks. Are you sure you're even a City fan? You've tried to do quite a character assassination on our fanbase. Let's break your post down.
Millner was derogatory about the club he left, trying to undermine it's achievements and how good they were. He didn't have to say what he did about us at all, he could have still kissed Liverpool's arse without putting us into the conversation. There were other digs and slights in other interviews too. He also took the piss after scoring against us at Anfield when he mimicked Ya Ya's league cup final celebration after scoring the winning penalty. The mans a ****. Booing him had absolutely nothing to do with Sterling and everything about him.
Sturridge like Sancho got stick because he acted all Billy big bollocks and both thought they were better and bigger than the club, the latter thinking he knew better than one of the greatest manages in the world in Pep. Sturridge wanted more money without actually being an established first team player. He was a greedy egotistical bastard, Chelsea offered it and off he went.
Dickov wasn't actually booed for scoring that penalty against us, I was at the game, were you? He got a great reception and was his usual all action self and was laughingly booed for it, all good natured as in a pantomime villain way. He knew it and we knew it. No he was booed after his totally over the top celebration right at the City fans as he scored what I think was the winning penalty. At that time we were in grave danger of relegation and his antics were totally out of order, as he himself has subsequently admitted.
Distin and James were offered more money by Portsmouth, the same as Cole. The first two were key players at the time and them fucking off left us right in the shit. They deserved any stick they got.
Cancello behaved like a spoilt brat and was rightly fucked off by Pep. He got booed for that disrespect to our manager and club and rightly so.
Barton was and is a bellend as the years since he left has proven. It's so long ago now I neither really remember or care. Bellend or not he was a half decent player on his day and we didn't have many of those back then. I don't remember him being booed when he played for us and I'm sure I remember he got a half decent reception on his first return to our place. Back then we might not have liked good players leaving but we understood we were never going to be challenging for honours so we understood why they would leave to better their careers, like SWP. We also needed the money they brought in.
No we are totally different to other clubs, especially Liverpool. Their hate campaign against Sterling was despicable and whipped up by a City hating and Liverpool loving media ensured he got vile abuse all over the country and even when he played for England. If you can't see that you're deluded or as I said not a City fan.
Nobody is treating Savinho poorly. Many of us don't rate him highly and express that here. At the game he gets our full support but his performances sadly often prove our opinion correct, though we hope he will come good eventually. Why wouldn't we?? A world class version of Savinho benefits everyone.
