That famous Scouse wit seems to be in short supply after yesterday, as demonstrated by The Liverpool Echo, who don't seem to be best pleased with the Stoke Sentinel, for printing the following in today's paper.
"TUT, tut. Shame on us in these parts for taking any kind of pleasure from Liverpool's demise in yesterday's Capital One Cup final at Wembley.
So what if they happened to beat Stoke on penalties in the semi-finals before losing on penalties themselves to Manchester City?
So what if Lucas, who allegedly mocked Stoke fans after Liverpool's victory at Anfield, should miss in yesterday's shoot-out and look suitably grief-stricken?
So what if we all left Anfield with the feeling that not only Liverpool, but the sponsors, the professional game and most neutrals wanted them, not Stoke, at Wembley?
So what if Liverpool messed up the order of their penalty takers yesterday so that James Milner, one of their best bets from 12 yards, was left standing on the half-way line without even taking aim?
We should derive no pleasure, whatsoever, from such misery."
