Every now and then I meet a salesman. Despite living in Manchester and coming from Stafford he has always mentioned he is a Liverpool fan and we have talked football. I saw him today, he asked me if I went and I said yes. Being polite I then asked him if he went, his reply ...........................

"No, I don't bother with football anymore, it has lost something for me" I didn't bother asking him if he watched it on tv. I just told him that we should have buried them in normal time and not needed penalties. Strangely he didn't respond.

That's a line I've heard a few times too - to which I've always responded 'Fair point - so why don't you go and watch lower league football instead?'. Same response though - nowt.
If they really fell out of love with the modern game (and I accept it can happen) - then go and support a small town team and enjoy football at that level instead. Of course, what they mean is 'we aren't winning any more'.

That famous Scouse wit seems to be in short supply after yesterday, as demonstrated by The Liverpool Echo, who don't seem to be best pleased with the Stoke Sentinel, for printing the following in today's paper.

"TUT, tut. Shame on us in these parts for taking any kind of pleasure from Liverpool's demise in yesterday's Capital One Cup final at Wembley.

So what if they happened to beat Stoke on penalties in the semi-finals before losing on penalties themselves to Manchester City?

So what if Lucas, who allegedly mocked Stoke fans after Liverpool's victory at Anfield, should miss in yesterday's shoot-out and look suitably grief-stricken?

So what if we all left Anfield with the feeling that not only Liverpool, but the sponsors, the professional game and most neutrals wanted them, not Stoke, at Wembley?

So what if Liverpool messed up the order of their penalty takers yesterday so that James Milner, one of their best bets from 12 yards, was left standing on the half-way line without even taking aim?

We should derive no pleasure, whatsoever, from such misery."

I looked at Sunderland, Newcastle, Villa, West Ham, Arsenal, United and Chelsea boards... none of them wanted Liverpool to win. It's not so much that anybody likes us, it's just the sheer disdain for Liverpool is incredible. And many of those boards were quoting much of the same stuff we do - the high number of ex Liverpool players in the media, the rather sickly 'love in' for them and of how Klopp is the new media darling.

There were a bloody impressive team for many years, and reached some dizzying heights - I don't think anybody can deny that, but that was then, and this is now.

There was a time when Preston NE, Stoke, Blackpool, Sunderland etc. could say that... but football is a changing landscape – they're very fond of 'history', so they should know that history dictates that no one club has dominated continuously – sure they have more silverware to show for their time at the top than most, but that was then and this is now!

Funny how a lot of United and Liverpool fans have fallen out of love with the game since their respective clubs stopped dominating the league and winning trophies!

City players didn't seem too up for the game tonight, announcing pep midway through the season was a mistake if ya ask me,although as a Liverpool fan im happy with the result.

Your team deserved to win, both fitness levels and desire were far superior to ours, thats especially relevant to our attacking players.I too would be well chuffed after losing a Cup final,a little bit of revenge was gained by a comprehensive victory a short time later.
As regards Pep......given the amount of exposure, gossip and excitement his not so secretive arrival was creating.....i don't think our club had much choice in order to regain the initiative and, ultimately, protect and respect our current incumbent.

Its been a very strange, disrupted season for us....i'll be glad to see the back of it.

Credit to Liverpool - you were miles better than us and full of energy which begs the question why you can't play like that on a more regular basis. Not taking anything away from your performance but we were diabolical and I'm running out of excuses for our mediocre league form. I'm clinging on to the hope that last night may well be down to the fact that Liverpool made 5 changes and freshened things up after an energy sapping 120 minutes for both teams on Sunday, whereas we pretty much stuck with the same line-up that had served us well in Kiev and at Wembley but fatigue may well have played a part as a result.

I don't think the Pep announcement has too much to do with it because our form wasn't great before that but it may be subconsciously impacting on the players and manager. I notice Bayern lost at home to Mainz last night too.

We'll be playing like that more constantly next season when Klopp has a pre season and a fitness program set up for this high press high tempo football that can last a whole season and also new players who will fit the mold for this football. No coincidence the times we played this brand of football we have battered teams, you twice, chelsea away, southampton away, villa away.Right now this is Rodgers team and no where near Klopp's side, but it bodes well for the future.

Cannot wait for next season.

Embarrassing post Jimmy - we deserved to win on Sunday , they deserved to win tonight . Try showing some class .

Klopp couldnt even admit we were the better team on Sunday ,and alluded to the fact that they were unfortunate , when those scouse f*ckers show one ounce of respect to my football club , i shall reciprocate , now jog on.
