Liverpool v City 1st leg CL Qtr Final post match

Quite a lot of defeatist nonsense on here - when will some City fans stop thinking of their team negatively whenever things go wrong? These are the people who were chucking their scarves on the floor and storming out in 2012 when I was thinking "It's not over, we can still do this." Yes, I fully expect to lose this tie but only because we failed to score an away goal and not because I think that's inevitable: nothing in football is inevitable. We did actually score but the goal was not counted because of a clearly erroneous offside flag, and as for the penalty against Sterling that wasn't given, well ...The team that couldn't be bothered to compete properly had 66% possession, 8 corners to none and 11 shots (yes, all off target, officially) to 9. If the Liverpool players are complacent next week they will be blown away - Klopp, unfortunately, shows every sign of recognising that danger.

Not a single shot on target. Not one! They didnt even have a corner, all ours were crap. After everything that's happened this season as well. Very worrying indeed. It seemed that every loose ball went to their feet, every cross from us was over hit or under weighted. Once 3-0 up of course they could sit back and let us play, some of the passing in 2nd half was superb, but no end product. It happened, let's move on to United and give them a pasting. Please

One thing that I am confident of is our passing game will be back to its best at Etihad. You'll not see Sane/Silva playing like that at home.

How often did I listen to Pep after an away loss or a an away draw without goals in the final round in the CL that he took an extra midfielder instead of an attacker to have control in the midfield... (I just listen to his press conference). At Bayern that never worked. We were toothless in attack - and whereas against small teams we mostly could hold the zero - but with bigger teams that did not work. Than you needed the heroic matches at home like against Porto or Donezk - but that does not work against the bigger teams who come with the advantage of a good home result.

But actually he knows how to play Klopp. I remember that we even played on the counter or with a deep defense with overplaying the pressing with long balls on Müller and Lewy to beat the BVB. And apart from that jinxed Cup semi final when Lahm and Alonso slipped at the penalties we won all the important matches and only lost matches when we were already Bundesliga Champions or preseason Supercups against them.

We tried a lot of long balls today, but we only had a short striker in Jesus to compete for it and lost it most of the time. It's totally different to long balls to Muller/Lewy

In life,in business,in sport,if the strategy &'operational tactics are flawed,If the mix & ability of 'staff' not right,a performance & result like this is the outcome.

Pep & the team have got very little wrong this year. It's a shame that on the two occasions they have,it's been agin these insufferable tramps.

An early goal is essential next week &'then another just afore ht. if we're in this position,& can keep a clean sheet,we'll beat em in extra time.

Pep must not be stubborn & feck aboot on Saturday agin the evictors & rancid meat sellers. We must play our top team & be utterly ruthless agin a mob who will be spoiling from the first minute & desperate to feck us up.

NO MESSING CITY !!

Criticism is alright.

Well, a chastening watch that and I don't know where to start.
It harks back to last years quarters, where Pep has this gung-ho attitude, with scant regard to any type of caution.
He talks 'attack, attack' in the build up to these games, so nobody is in any doubt about the game plan.
Last year, we eventually overcame Monaco at our place after they tired.
We take a 2 goal lead to their place, having witnessed and knowing they're Europes top scorers and have to attack us.
Kill the game and take the sting until they tire? No, it's an expansive set up, no thought of protecting a fortunately earned lead, leaving us exposed and out.
You can bet your bottom dollar, Klopp won't be doing that next week.

We all, and I presume Pep too, knew they'd be right at us for the first 20-30, try to get a goal or two, then tire and park the bus. Well, to be fair to them, that game plan worked.

But looking at that Liverpool midfield, pre-match and you'd think, grafters.
All going to get stuck in, but that's it. In truth, that's all they did.
We looked heavy legged and unable to cope with the pressure.
Maybe Sterling would have been an outlet, not sure, but we couldn't get the ball forward in that first half and kept playing the ball back to our defenders putting them under pressure to hoof it anywhere.
We didn't seem to be alive to any second ball, or did it really just always bounce their way?

They appeared to target Walkerbouts side, and though we didn't concede a goal from there, Robertson had so much joy and space.
Walker is just not a very good defender, although, if Sterling had played, maybe Robertson would have held back.

That right back had Sane sussed, although given numerous opportunities, he failed to get any joy, but you couldn't criticise his willingness or effort. Jesus, looked so lightweight and 'lost' up front, wasn't given a sniff and at no time did you think there was a goal coming.
And that is the most damning stat. Not a single shot on target and no away goal, so effectively, out.
Does anyone fancy the derby now?

Just shocked how we abandoned our playing style of playing out from the back and hoofed it forwards relentlessly....to the tiniest frontline in European football.
I would say they need to ask themselves questions of the tactics, but what answers are acceptable?
Just a piss poor plan and percormance. Worrying though that pep doesn't really know how to handle klopp at all, and this is after many many meetings.

Because it did not work out last time, made us predictable and put us under immense pressure. Pep decided to try something different, which did not work out either, but cannot blame him for hoofing.

I watched the game in Thailand and whatever station was on Martin 'fuckin' Tyler did the commentary. Described the Liverpool reception of our coach as ' over boisterous '. WTF talk about not wanting to upset the foreign dipper hordes

Oh well i’ll just iron me knickers next Wednesday then.
:-)

We need to come out flying and get an early goal, if possible, because in the second half of tonight’s game, there were plenty of opportunities to grab at least one...in addition to the one that was wrongly disallowed (vice the Salah offside one, of course!).

Merely pointing out that even on Tuesday, we have to keep the back door closed if we are going to pull off the Great Escape!

Sane flagged offside when on and Jesus scored the rebound and a clear penalty on Sterling not given.

We didn't play well enough for long enough BUT (I know I know) IF Bacon had put Kevin in........IF the offside hadn't been given........IF the penalty had.......we'd be looking at a very different situation. We only needed one of them, one away goal &..........

But they weren't given,we don't have an away goal & we'll have to play much much better next week.

An early goal, another just afore ht,a clean sheet & we win in extra time.

This team has the capability.......IF.

Smash the evictors & rancid meat sellers will be a good start. Don't be stubborn & feck aboot Pep,this means a lot to MANCUNIANS & the opportunity to write history will not come around in our lifetimes if ever.

Just do it CITY.

Our players are in awe of the Anfield atmosphere & Klopp has Pep on toast. Simple as that.

So true. No point in picking out this player shouldn't have played, that player should've played, Gundogan is finished, Walker can't defend etc.
Tuesday will be a different game.
