Liverpool v City - post match thread

I fully expected us to lose this game. The squad is completely burnt out and the moral is so bad even a cup final win can't resurrect it. The title is long gone, and obviously people are worried about dropping out of the top four. We can't change where we finish, we can just continue to support the lads.

Pep has a hell of job to walk into.

This season is almost a replica of last season, miles off the pace for winning the league and now struggling to nail down a top four spot unless we find some sort of fight, spirit and consistency. The only difference is we have won a trophy thankfully, although after yet another dreadful away performance, the shine has already faded on that.

At the end of the season if we make the top four, have won a cup and reached the semi final of the champions league I guess it will be viewed as a success on paper but we all know in reality it has been far from that. Oh and before someone reminds me I know that fifteen years ago we would have been ecstatic with that but that was then and this is now.

we will NOT finish in the top 4 I'll be very surprised if we are even in the top 6. not flapping but based entirely on our form and the apparent lack of desire from either the players or the manager to do anything about it.
im afraid no champions leaugue next year which means some of our targets will not want to come regardless of Pep! everyone does realise that if scum get in the top 4, which seems almost certain, then they will attract the players they want and will put our progress back! time to get our head out of the sand and be realistic!

Don't be too concerned about not being in the Chumps League next season.

It won't be long before we are back.

It will be the start of the making of us , its what we need now to begin the emergence of a new breed of player and the way we go about bringing in transfers and managing the academy.

Hasn't hurt Leicester or Spurs or West Ham even this year.

If am not fussed at all if we don't even play in Europa although I am assured that the winner of the League Cup gains automatic entry.

Pep has a hell of job to walk into.

It will be his most exciting and rewarding of his career so far.

We are still a sleeping giant.

Don't forget our spine is old ( in terms of years at the club and in age compared to many of our competition ) , tired and been around for too long now.

We have recruited badly over 7 seasons now and that will change for the better because we have had a number of years to learn from our mistakes and boy have we made many.

Me too blue , at least you are two hours ahead of us and maybe get some shut eye before 4.00am.

I agree with your sentiment entirely , he has once again been out coached /managed and we have been decimated by a Liverpool B side at best.

This season in particular is the worst viewing I had the pleasure of watching us for many a year.

Not only do we get thumped and outplayed , out thought by mediocre opposition time and time again but he makes the most inept excuses for the effort or lack of it that any one with half a brain wouldn't make up in a month of Sundays.

I have never looked more forward to next year in many a year at least because there is no way even a half decent manager could be part of a side playing as poorly at home and away for the most part for that matter than we have for 22 consecutive league games now.
I'll cheer myself up this evening by watching some of the highlights from games of a couple of seasons ago - when we played attractive football.
I was at my daughter's place over Christmas (Pakenham) - at least a couple of games were night kickoffs so didn't start until 6:00ish - but I did get 2:00am games as well - bloody hard work.

The future is Blue.

Black for MP an the many players who won't be with us next season but the future is Blue.

Time has been BLUE for me since the 1950s and will continue for many, many years to come (I hope).
My wardrobe is full of blue clothes apart from a red/black City shirt - and RED is banned totally in our house - I wear sunglasses when I put the steaks on the Barbie so I cannot see the colour of raw meat.

Because I am sure we will finish below Arsenal this year as bad as they are we are miles worse both in effort attitude and performance.
We cuold finish beneath Arsenal in the league but that doesn't entail Man City will be out of the top four.

Seriously who in our current line up is going to be part of a squad that breaks records at home and abroad?

We need 6-7 younger quality players that can take on the best the premiership has to offer and do it in Europe.

Our squad was ok for the premiership up until the start of last season , the game has gone past a lot of them even the likes of Silva will find it tough to put a mark on games consistently.

If we could we probably would only keep Hart , Sterling , KVD and Kun and Sterling only stays because of his age IMO beyond this summer.

We have to keep a few of the others but what is critical in the next 3-5 years is bringing in players from the acedemy with the right mix of players who not only can fight to win every contest but also return the etihad to the stadium where opposition teams are afraid to come to

I think we probably won't be in the Chumps League next season anyway so as others have said let the rebuilding begin.

Breaking records isn't a barometer.
The idea that this squad was done 18 months ago is absurd. This squad should be champions and should be clear at the top right now. The reason it's not is down to having a terrible manager in charge. The game has gone past him.
Not winning the league this season - esp. this season - after adding 150m to the squad is a catastrophic failure. I can't understand why Pellegrini has had it so easy from the media and from our own fanbase. It blows my mind.

Do we need a few top class younger players? yes, but that's looking to the future. This squad, right now, should be doing a hell of a lot better. To make comments like we ought to only keep 4 players from it is wholly unfair, they're being instructed by a chimp currently. The fact that despite having 2 fast as fuck wingers playing last night, Silva never had a pass on out wide is testament to the lack of work we do on team shape. Lesser players in lessers squads are getting better results because they have superior tactics.
