The kind of slightly freakish result you often get early season - don´t be fooled - Liverpool were well below par but still mullered Villa on possession and chances - Friedel made 5 or 6 brilliant saves and only the rush of blood to the head by Captain Coont prevented them getting a draw - Villas 1st was a joke by a player who is simply not good enough and they went to sleep at the corner , arguing instead of playing to the whistle

Liverpool can field a top first 11 but don't have the same quality throughout the squad and this it what costs them. Same problem we had last year really, first 11 that was top 6 but a bench that was relegation material. In that situation it's very hard to make effective changes when you need to turn a game around. How much would they have given to have had Keane as an option on the bench tonight?

It was a fairly average Villa team though. There midfild of Petrov Sidwell and ReO Coker isn't anything special. Their defence is average
