Living in the UK advice.

Luckily, my daughter lives outside of Worksop in Langold which is a small mining village. Worksop itself suffered massively when all the mines closed in the 80's/90's and drugs were rife. Not sure what it's like these days.

I live in Worksop and sadly it still has quite a bad drug problem and as for the centre of town, if you like charity or vape shops you will be fine. Although it’s that bad the charity shops are closing down. Such a shame but it’s the shame in a lot of places now

I know mate. We had a pm about it a while back. I’m still in the same place (that we talked about).

Amazing having Stratford, Warwick and Leamington all within about 20 minutes drive. As well as London and Manchester in under two hours.

People are nice too. A few stuck up cunts but nowhere near as bad as Cheshire in that regard.
We had a few nights in an airBnB in Alcester during the summer, was a great trip for the soul.

Some really nice walks, and some lovely country pubs about.

Ventured into Stratford and down to Stow-on-the-wold (tourist trap!), but great to see some villages have kept their tradition.

As you say, great location to go either way within a couple of hours.

I know what you mean.
When I lived in the UK I'd get depressed every October when the clocks went back.
I think they call it SADS.
Were all different, some people would hate the tropical weather where I live.

My mates an uber driver in an ev.
He works 70 hours a week but makes really good money.
He reckons the fares over there are higher so he could make more.
No disrespect to your mate because he's working hard and doing what he has to do. I will often pick up some extra shifts or half shifts to earn extra money but working 70 hours a week isn't living. It's existing.

I'd suggest he just visit for 6 months and see if he misses Australia. I moved away 16 years ago and whenever I get a little dreamy about life in the Uk a trip back is enough to remind me the grass ain't greener. :)
I've told him mate. I know he will miss waking up to blue skies.
But he seems intent.

My thought was do a house swap for a few months, I hear there are websites where you can do that.

Living ANYWHERE is about location, location, location!

There are some beautiful, safe, relaxing, high QOL places to live in the UK, but you have to be able to afford to live there and want to avail yourself of what they offer.

Conversely, and often just a few miles away, there are shitholes you would never want to live and you wonder why people don’t simply walk away from them.

I used to live on the edge of the Pennines and the Peak National Park, but I was a kid and didn’t realize just how beautiful and healthy it was. Now, I spend a fortune to live in a tree-lined oasis in the concrete jungle of sprawling American city and am spending a fortune more to try to buy a little slice of the country, and water, and nature, and peace and quiet for my golden years.

There’s somewhere in the UK I know almost anyone could be happy as a clam, and tbf there are probably hundreds of such places.

But, finding the right place at the right time for the right price is often more art and good fortune than science and diligence, so good luck!

No hurricanes
No earthquakes
No big hairy spiders or snakes or scorpions
Little to no chance of civil war or having a complete idiot in charge (note: Liz Truss excepted)
Next door to the best football club ever known in England
Great places to visit without having to get on an aeroplane every time
Hot places just half a day away if you need it

Get the right place and the UK is a great country to live in.

I always used to love Manchester, even with it always having been a dangerous place. But over the last decade I’ve felt a bit lost in my own city.

I feel like the two examples the other poster used were very good: Newcastle and Liverpool have kept their Northernness and haven’t lost their identity. They’re friendlier than Manchester, they’ve kept their accents, and their city centres are cleaner and better kept.

Manchester has just turned into a small London. I think it’s lost its identity, lost its Northern friendliness, and like London it has lost its iconic accent. Young people in London don’t have that proper Cockney accent or Cockney Rhyming Slang anymore, and it’s the same in Manchester. The true Mancunian accent has disappeared amongst the under 30s, within a few decades it will be completely gone.

Too many non-Mancunians have changed the face of the city. Altrincham, Chorlton, Didsbury and the city centre are full of Southerners and other areas are just immigrant dumping zones.

Not enough people say hello to each other, hold doors for each other, give their seat up on transport. People will choose to avoid eye contact rather than engage. People don’t talk, smile or even nod at each other. The craic in pubs has disappeared, if not the pubs that have disappeared full stop.

My experience of Newcastle and Liverpool is that they’ve managed to keep what Manchester used to have but has lost.

Roads are always full of traffic, roads are awful (as a cyclist, they’re dangerous), cars are parked on the roads in too many bus routes which slows buses down, driving standards are appalling…

There’s graffiti everywhere, it’s terrible to look at:

^ it’s like this everywhere

Any spare bit of wall seems to have graffiti and tagging on it. Nothing shouts ‘town full of tramps’ more than shit graffiti.

Litter, bin bags and fly tipping is just strewn everywhere. Manchester is a true shithole these days. For every shiny tower that goes up, the rest of the city deteriorates. As I say, just a small London.

I used to be really proud of Manchester but I’m not so much anymore, it’s not the same city.
yeah...but apart from that?

China is much better according the stooge based on a visit to one restaurant and some local roads. The roads have to be better in China for the 8 day traffic jams.

You don't get all the executions in "the UK". No one calls it that here unless they move abroad and it sounds odd.

Great summary! One of the best parts about living in England has to be the wonderful people, most of whom have a fantastic sense of humor. The ability to laugh at the little things and share jokes with strangers really adds a unique charm to everyday life. I’ve been lucky enough to meet so many amazing friends during my time at college in England, and they’ve played a huge role in making my experience here unforgettable. Not only did they introduce me to new places, ideas, and adventures, but they also helped me find https://academized.com/buy-descriptive-essay, which made my studies so much more enjoyable. Being able to rely on their support when it came to getting help with assignments really lifted a lot of the pressure off my shoulders. With their assistance, I was able to focus more on the aspects of my education I truly loved, making the whole journey much more fulfilling.

A good mate of mine here in Oz, originally from Leicester, has decided he is homesick after 20 years of living here in Australia. He misses things like the humour and nice country pubs
He is planning to come back to live in the UK and is slowly starting to sell his belongings and preparing for the move in March....but then he told me about this video he had watched on YouTube about life in the UK presently.
He is now worried that things aren't as rosy as he is thinking and is seemingly unsure. His wife is Australian and excited about the castle's and history etc.

What I want to ask is, is this guy talking bollocks or his he being factual? I haven't lived in the UK for over 30 years so I don't really know whether he is bullshiting or not and creating a video that a lot of people will watch so he can make money on it.

I told him I would post it on here to get some fair reactions.

Who gives a fuck what that baldy twat thinks? It amazes me these cunts coming back here to tell us the place is a shithole snd we are all cunts. Fuck off again mate. No **** missed you the first time.

We have one of the most beautiful country’s in the world. The people are top notch. Hate these fucking doom merchants.
