It is a disgrace really, be interesting to see which demographic this affects the most.
I read a survey the other day which I can't find now (though I'll continue looking for it). From memory it said voter ID rules impact those who intend to vote Labour and Green disproportionately. Mainly because it's rarer than ever before for young people (18-25) to have a driver's license or regularly travel abroad because the costs of owning a car or taking holidays has gotten so high. More young people also don't drink these days. We're not talking huge chunks of the population here, but it's big enough to make a difference.
That scans for me, I don't drive and didn't go abroad for about 10 years, I only had a provisonal license for the sole reason of buying alcohol until I got my passport in 2017 at the age of 27.
They modeled an impact of 6% on Labour's total vote versus 2% for Tories. That translates to roughly a 1.5-2% vote share swing to Conservatives. Which is a fair chunk in the context of a general election where that kind of margin can really matter.
