Yes, as a 17 yr old I had a Honda CB250 on L plates. Straight to that from a Puch VZ50 moped. Came off it once turning right, down hill on a wet road. First and last time. Arranged a load of driving lessons and moved to a car. When I was a kid you could ride a 250 cc bike on l plates that was capable of 100mph near enough. If the truth be told we all did silly things and the traffic wasn’t half as bad as it is today. Just shopping around for one of these:I was in the same boat financially but had a string of bikes, last one being a Kawasaki 1100 Eddie Lawson replica, it was very quick and overall not as good as my Kawasaki GT 750, shaft drive. I rode all over western Europe on that, several times over to the Isle of Man.
I recently sold my Suzuki DR 650, just too much bike for what I do, I just ride around on Forest service roads of which there are thousands of miles, will replace with something smaller and lighter, maybe a little Honda 250
I've got one you can have for free, needs a new starter but there are none around. The pull start is too hard for me to handleJust shopping around for one of these:
