Lost a bit of interest this season

Is it just me or does anybody else feel the same at the moment.

I can see where the OP is coming from and have thought the same but cannot put my finger on it. I think a combination of :
1:Watching City for 40 years waiting and hoping for success. The FA cup then the title arrived and maybe for some that holy grail was reached.

2: I used to enjoy the walk up to the stadium, be it Maine Road or the Etihad with no idea what the outcome of the match would be. I think it's fair to say that in 80% of our home fixtures now it's a safe bet that City will win and those games we are just far too strong for the opposition or they park the bus. Either way it doesn't make great viewing.

3: The increasing cost of following City especially with the recent success is starting to hurt many fans. It's a case of you do not want to miss Wembley semis and Finals, cup runs and Champions league games but instead of enjoying the prospect of the exciting games ahead I find myself wincing when the e mail arrives thanking me for my purchase ( there are 4 of us ) in all cup schemes aswell .

4: Finally the atmosphere is changing. We used to have to be the 12th man on many occasions as our team was usually up against it. No similar to the Swamp we can sit there comfortable in the fact that our team can for the most part "do it by themselves" also our success has brought in the "new fans" and we are whether we like it or not heading down the Swamp route if we are not careful.

Im sure that as a previous poster stated the Agueroooooo moment has an affect aswell. We will never top that moment but I wouldn't swap it for the world , a million fans of clubs throughout the UK can only dream of witnessing their club have such a moment.

Well wrote Son agree with your thoughts.

Don't care what anyone says, that final last season knocked the shit out of every blue and it's carried over to this season.

I find most football games boring now to be honest, not just our own. Not so long ago i would watch every single game i possibly could. Now i watch nothing but City and the odd "big" game between our rivals. And they don't particularly excite me most of the time. I renewed my season ticket but i'm a little unsure whether that was the right decision. I sit in level 2 of the East Stand. It's a lot of money, but i don't think i get enough enjoyment from it any more to justify the expense. It's so flat now. Just boring really. I don't get a buzz when i'm walking to the ground any more either. It really pisses me off because i used to look forward to it so much and i feel like football is being taken away from me against my wishes. I WANT to be excited about football again, but i'm just not. I don't know why this has happened to me, but it's just how i feel. I don't think it's to do with City, just football in general.

My thinking's very similar to yours mate.

The atmosphere's not there, costs are spiralling, too many divas & divers and even the way the game has changed (for example, tackling virtually banned) has all contributed.

I just hope that once MP has his style imprinted on the players and a better idea of formation & teams that we'll at least enjoy some entertainment for our money.

-- Tue Sep 17, 2013 10:17 am --

There's been an underlying negative feeling towards football with me for a while now.

I'm getting absolutely sick to death of so many things whilst trying to convince myself that things are all rosey.

From all the diving, feigning injury, time wasting, swearing at the officials; to the terrible atmospheres; to the ridiculous ticket prices; to things at City with it feeling like a kids theme park, everyone sitting in silence unless it's to moan at the players, even away games have really lacked a good atmosphere and enjoyment factor recently; to things like the Qatar World Cup, lack of interest in evolving the game with modern technology; then to players who on the whole seem like chavvy wankers with loads of money who seem to think they can do and say what they want...

There are many many things which make me feel that, really, this is a sport for big girl's blouses and cünts! and it's a game which lacks class.

I try to ignore it all - and i really do ignore all the media stuff, which i do think people do get overly paranoid about, but it is there a little bit - but there's something just not right about the game on the whole at the moment.

It isn't in any way related to the money side of things with "rich foreign owners buying clubs as a play-thing". I think that's a load of bollocks. Football has always been about money. The richest, or those spending the most have always been the ones to succeed: Davies at Newton Heath, Norris at Woolwich Arsenal, Gibson at United, the Moores on Merseyside, the Edwards at United, Harding at Chelsea...all buying success right throughout the history of the game well before Sheikh Mansour came to City, the Qataris went to Paris or even Abramovic going to Chelsea.

For me, it's not that. It's something else. A wider thing. It's like there's no class in the game. I feel embarrassed by some of the things that go on. It's got to the point with the diving and feigning injury that i'd rather just turn over and watch something else, or if it's a City game (and luckily we don't have too many of this type of player) where everyone else is crying at the ref i'm actually shouting at our player to "get the fuck up and get on with it".

I think the game needs a major shake up. Someone at the top not afraid to tell everyone their cünts and they're acting like cünts and making this a game for cünts. Someone to bring some class back to the sport. Let the sport move with the times, with technology across the game. Not let clubs rape as much money out of the fans as they possibly can - but that will only start when chumps stop paying for and going to the games which are overpriced (it's your fault more than the clubs if you pay for the prices they set) - because overall increases in ticket prices bring in very little overall profit to clubs but it could be a huge hit to the fan. Someone who will properly stand up and bring in Safe Standing. Someone who won't set stupid rules about not being allowed to take in flags with sticks over 2m long. Someone who will shake up clubs' Academies from the jokes they are at present and get a system in place where clubs can actually produce their own local talent rather than just wai 'til U16 where they just bring in a ready-made foreign lad...

I also want fans to be much more proactive at trying to change things. The atmospheres in this country - now even with away fans too - is utterly dreadful. But so too is the attitude of fans who just sit there and take it when clubs do certain things - again, like Arsenal away last year with all the chumps that paid that money and went to the game, you're all just saying "yeah charge what you want, i'll still pay it"! All the ShowSec shit with us being told to sit down and so on...

I actually love football. But not football as it currently is.

Excellent post. I posted similar things in a nutshell but you've gone all out there!

I feel the same as the OP

first season I've ever not bothered with the Cup Schemes ( though cost has a lot to do with that)

the end of last season (sacking Mancini ,the diabolical FA Cup Final performance and losing at home to Norwich) and the poor start to this season have quite a bit to do with it

I also have an ominous sense of foreboding that we will struggle this season and not make the top4?!?!?
Put this under "glory hunter"
why?
im exactly the same and had a season ticket for nearly 30 years ....i missed the 1st game against newcastle because i booked a holiday , that is the 1st time in years i have ever booked a holiday in the football season. sacked the cup schemes off aswell.

i suspect most of the people losing interest are like me and in their 30s and 40s and just not used to the sterile atmosphere , sick of the big wages for players and simply cant justify the match ticket prices/season card prices when we have familys....coupled with the early mentioned fact of how can ANYTHING ever live up to THAT game ???
i dont know....just my thoughts but i totally understand the kids these days as thats what i was like 20 - 30 years ago when i couldnt of imagined missing a game home or away...

Cannot believe all the negativity.....we have no atmosphere, the match day experience isn't what it was....PLEASE grow a pair of B******* short memory guys....what do you want a crap team but we sing a bit more? Please.... I have waited nearly 40 years for this... Food too expensive, go to the chippie before or eat at home, match day experience? Try walking round the back streets of Maine Rd avoiding dog shit or getting mugged...added to the fact we were crap...we are now in heaven, you all sound like spoilt kids/rags it's embarrassing.

Try reading what people are expressing rather than just dismissing them as being negative! Lots of genuine feelings being expressed on this thread.

My interest in City and the league has only increased this year. It's shaping to be the most competitive season in memory, and if we do so happen to win the title it will be extremely well deserved (that goes for anyone else who may win it as well).

Amazing and exciting time to be a Manchester City supporter. I won't be missing a single minute.

I don't think its just you City fans.. Since i have been raising a child and not been to great with my money, the thought of going to West Ham can seem a drag, i have a season ticket and have sold about 10 of my games, if i go once every few weeks i really look forward to it, 3/4 times in a month is just to much. The cost of petrol, sitting in traffic, and then to sit around a bunch of people moaning there arses off gets to me. Sometimes i actually prefer, just sitting on my tod at home watching it on Livestream. Would hate the thought of never going again but i must admit ive lost a bit of interest now days.

We're only a few games in and everything is so doom and gloom even at my work everyone is up to it. Sort it out weve still got 4 trophys to go for its not the end its the start.
