Kovacic will get first team minutes this year even if KDB wasn't injured, he's a Gundogan replacement and he's fit in like a glove so far

You are wrong. Kovacic has already played in Rodri’s role pre season. He will play there in front of Philips (hopefully) when inevitably we rest Rodri (which we have to do for his sake) or god forbid he gets an injury….

Txixi has also already said he can play in Rodri’s role, see below quote…. He will play games with Rodri of course, especially with KDB being out
