So the investigation into Paqueta seems to surround one match on March 12th vs Villa where there were a flurry of bets in Brazil on Lucas to receive a yellow card, which he did late on.
After checking the betting exchanges, most of the bets originated from Paqueta Island where the player hails from. There were also suspicious betting patterns reported in the UK too.
Paqueta didn't place any bets personally, & the amounts won amounted to relatively little, but it's the fact that so many yellow card spot bets on one player in one match happened at all, which is being viewed as highly suspicious.
Apparently a similar situation happened with Granit Xhaka a couple of years ago & the investigation only concluded in January with no charges, because it was impossible to prove Xhaka had anything to do with it.
Dunno what to make of it. Paqueta's received two yellows in two matches this season already, & reportedly admitted earlier last season that he wasn't a good tackler because that's not his natural game, but because Moyes played him so deep, he had to adapt.
I'd still take him because he's a quality player playing in the wrong type of team to get the best out of his talents, hence why he wants the move to City where he can revert to the creative force that he is.
However, if the Xhaka investigation is anything to go by, I can't see the Paqueta situation being resolved before September 1st, so I seriously doubt City will have the opportunity to sign him for the reported £80m agreed before the window closes.
The deal's still not impossible, hence the "paused" claim. Paqueta was supposed to meet with the WHU hierarchy today, but the meeting was cancelled with no reason given & the FA informed.
