Messi is Messi. The greatest footballer the game has seen. It would pay for itself.
Take it you never saw pele or maradona play???
Messi is the best player in the world now but not as good as either of them

With the greatest of respect to those two, they plied their trade in a game which saw alcoholics and smokers take to the field. Football is a different game. For Messi to do the things he does on such a consistent basis in today's era vs athletes is something else.Take it you never saw pele or maradona play???

Have you seen some of the 'tackles' that those two took?! Maradona took an average Napoli team to the top of Italian football when it was without question the strongest, defensively soundest league in the world. He also carried an average Argentina to the World Cup 86.
Messi has only ever played with great players; he's never been able to take a mediocre team to victory in the manner Diego did. Pele or Maradona playing in an era of defensive neglect where most tackles are outlawed would do just as much and probably more damage.
To say they'd be playing against athletes now suggests that they'd still adhere to the training methods and nutritional guidelines of the last century; they'd also be more athletic, so the transition into modern football wouldn't effect them.
But also with the interpretation of the rules weighed against forwards and defenders able to perform tackles that would provoke a red card nowadays without anyone raising an eyebrow. He wouldn't get to do half the amazing things he does because he'd be quite legally tackled harder than he ever has been in his life. With the greatest of respect to those two, they plied their trade in a game which saw alcoholics and smokers take to the field.
