Luis Suarez

I was watching the World Cup semi between France and West Germany last night.

The game was a lot slower then but the technical ability and trickery of the players on mass was streets ahead of what the premiership for example dishes up now.

FFS we have players at City getting paid zillions that can't even provide a decent cross or a corner any more and these players could dance on a dime thirty plus years ago.

And for good measure with a much heavier ball they could ping a shot from more than 20 metres out below cross bar height on target.

Take it you never saw pele or maradona play???

Messi is the best player in the world now but not as good as either of them
With the greatest of respect to those two, they plied their trade in a game which saw alcoholics and smokers take to the field. Football is a different game. For Messi to do the things he does on such a consistent basis in today's era vs athletes is something else.

World class player, never injured but an absolute scumbag of a human being. Not sure how I'd feel if he played for us.

This. Plus both Pele and Maradonna are utter cunts whereas Messi comes across as a down to earth likeable guy

Have you seen some of the 'tackles' that those two took?! Maradona took an average Napoli team to the top of Italian football when it was without question the strongest, defensively soundest league in the world. He also carried an average Argentina to the World Cup 86.

Messi has only ever played with great players; he's never been able to take a mediocre team to victory in the manner Diego did. Pele or Maradona playing in an era of defensive neglect where most tackles are outlawed would do just as much and probably more damage.

To say they'd be playing against athletes now suggests that they'd still adhere to the training methods and nutritional guidelines of the last century; they'd also be more athletic, so the transition into modern football wouldn't effect them.

That's not Messis fault though is it? He is in a good team with good players because....... he is shit hot. He's not going to go to some average shit team to just prove a point to you? He is also in a very good Argentina squad and hasn't been great with them with the players around him.

No one is right or wrong as it can never be proved.

Seen a lot of all 3 and Messi shades it for me, scores wonder goals for fun, more often than the other 2. Also one of the other 2 took a lot of drugs to help them on the way

But also with the interpretation of the rules weighed against forwards and defenders able to perform tackles that would provoke a red card nowadays without anyone raising an eyebrow. He wouldn't get to do half the amazing things he does because he'd be quite legally tackled harder than he ever has been in his life.

Messi would be a great, great player in any era. But so would Pele and Maradona.
