United could spend 200m just to stand still. Replacing the likes of Vidic and Evra with a similar standard will cost plenty. Finding the elusive playmaker will also mean mega money. Those three signings alone will take half of the pot up.

they will not be spending £200M; that is just made up press briefing shit to get the season tickets selling

Not saying they will spend 200m - merely saying that even if they do it would only potentially replace like for like and not improve them.

While I think you're right about them brandishing that figure about to boost season ticket sales, I think you're underestimating the amount of work that has to be done at United to make them even into a top 4 side. They've had a terrible season but they can thank Moyes for pointing out how much some of their players need refreshing.

With Vidic, Giggs and Ferdinand already gone, the likes of Cleverley, Valencia, Evra, Buttner, Fellaini, Evans, Carrick, Fletcher, Young, Hernandez and Nani all need to make way over the next 2 years. United won't have to worry about FFP this year for obvious reasons, so they'll go all out this summer. They'll end up overpaying for lots of players because teams will take advantage of their desperation for quality, but United won't care - they really will do anything to be back in Europe.

Demonstrated already by their immediate pursuit of Luke Shaw from Southampton and William Carvalho from Sporting. They'll also be looking to add two CBs, a new RB and perhaps a new attacking player if one of Rooney or Van Persie fancies a new challenge. They're going to spend upwards of 9 figures this summer because they really need to.

Us on the other hand? Probably Mangala, Fernando, Sagna and Fabregas in. We might go for someone like Ashley Cole but in all honesty I think Clichy's useful away from home in the same way Milner is. On the way out I see Lescott & Richards leaving, and that's about it. I see Rodwell being given another season, especially considering we've got to boost our homegrown quota for the year.

I'd like to sign Luke Shaw but not at the prices being quoted in the press. United on the other hand will be seeing it as a long-term club investment rather than a new signing. That's how they're going to view every signing they make this summer. They're going to have to make a huge statement with the players they buy, and Luke Shaw is the first one of them.

Very much as I see it. Well put.

Agreed this is the way I see it.

Fabregas would be a very good signing if it was to happen.

Southampton board will be sitting there thinking if Pochettino does go to Spurs, he'll be needing a left-back who is better than Danny Rose, so let's just keep this bubbling along nicely and see how far United will go. United, in turn, are under pressure to do their buying early this summer after last year's fiasco.

Calum Chambers can play either side at full back - cracking young player already on their books

Heavily linked with Arsenal to replace Sagna.
