Luxury Robinho

Lets get something straight here. I havnt once said we should get rid of Robinho.
But its about playing him at the right time in the right games. And playing him away against Lucas Neill certainly isnt the right time or game.
Maybe Mark Hughes has some blame at his door for this.

The other 10 probably gave 80% today. But what is happening with Robinho is exactly what happened with Elano. Great start but one the premiership players work out you just have to get in their faces it all goes downhill. They give 50-60% work rate.

Still his first season in the prem, Ronaldo, Drogba and Henry were all mediocre in their first seasons in the prem.

BINGO

Well today it is plain to see yet again that Robinho is a luxury we cannot afford to carry in the team. How can Mark Hughes say that he retains possesion every time he is on the ball?! One little shove and he cant hack it. Good to see Boj back cos we really need him. Caciedo is a bad Heskey.

WHAT? New to football are you?

Rag or not, the point is very relevant.

The whole system we employ is tailored to suit Robinho. We would not be playing with this shape if it wasn't the one that suits that one player the best.

So, if you are utilising a system to accommodate your star player then the least we can expect is for that star player to actually start pulling his weight and contributing to the cause a bit more often.

The fact of the matter is that he has been more or less a complete waste of a shirt on our travels and I am convinced that if we had not signed Robinho we would have had more points, away from home at least.

For me, we have another Kinkladze situation here, where our most talented individual ends up being part of the reason for our downfall, because we are manufacturing a team to suit his involvement, whereas he should be altering his game to suit the pattern best suited to the team as a whole.

Mark Hughes has to take the blame for all that but let's not pretend that the Robinho factor is not a major contributory factor to our ills, because it clearly is.

Superbly put

We can question his commitment all day but for me he's our only real threat at times, even today he managed to carve out 3 or 4 half chances for himself.

He gets a rough ride at times, no one is amazing week in week out especially in an inconsistent team such as ours.

Dropping Robinho would be mental, you dont drop your star players you perservere with them in the knowledge that their form will return.

Rob can be shite and still score 2 goals, not every week granted but he can do it, he was immense on Thursday and will be immense again.

When has he been shite and contributed to a game? He has been very poor except the Liverpool and Copenhagen game for months!

Hughes hasnt got the tactical awareness to get the best out of robinho away from home, it really is as simple as that.

Nonsense. The whole team is geared up to allow Robinho to play. He just doesn't do it away from home
