Lycra bikers

If cyclists are such a danger then it's a wonder that the authorities don't put adverts on the radio and TV to try to persuade them to act sensibly.

That's what they do to try to stop some thick and yobbish car drivers drinking and driving at Christmas.

And there were recently some radio ads reminding stupid motorists that overtaking on a bend is not a wise thing to do.

Anyone who needs reminding not to drink drive or overtake dangerously shouldn't be on the road but in a secure mental hospital.

Anybody that tries mingling with thousands of lbs of motorized steel on a bicycle, on a day to day basis, in rush hour, is a bit slow if you ask me. They could be wearing a top hat and a cape for all I care.

No problem with cyclists generally, it's great exercise, etc etc, but they need to stick to the highway code like everybody else.

Three times today, I've seen cyclists sail through red lights as if the rules don't apply to them.

Agreed. I sometimes go through and stop the other side of the lights/crossing (if no pedestrians) so as to make a safer getaway (and avoid cars who want to turn left - often through me), but carrying straight through is wrong.

a danger to themselves and other road users, i was driving home tonight and one came across a road junction where he should have given way he must have been doing around 30mph no lights whatsoever and i missed his back wheel by inches, he was a split second from being killed, if they want to ride these performance bikes they should be made to use a track or confined to rural roads and made to have some kind of insurance, every day i see them weaving in and out of the traffic.

Not wishing to play devils advocate buuuuut.... if he was doing 30, the legal speed limit, how would you have hit him unless you were going, dare I say, OVER the speed limit? You couldn't have slowed down or anticipated someone darting across a junction like that?

Oh and no-one has right of way at junctions unless indicated by a 'Give Way' sign. In any case, you, as the driver of a hefty 1.5 tonne lump of moving metal, must take care to keep an eye out for cyclists and motorcyclists as they may not have seen you (Under Road Junctions 170 of the Highway Code).

Couldn't stand cyclists in London, always heckled them when they jump lights or go threw red dodging pedestrians. The cheeky bastards give it back!!

Roads aren't designed for bikes, they are a hazard to themselves and other drivers.
Modern roads were first lobbied by cyclists who campaigned to have them tarmac'd over.

Oh and rubber pneumatic tyres? First designed for use on bicycles, not cars.
Bikes, motor or otherwise, are the only way to travel.

Like everyone else? More than three times yesterday I've seen drivers on phones. Drivers jumping red lights. Drivers speeding. Drivers trying to run pedestrians over as they turn into a street, cars in bus lanes at non designated times. So stick "should do" at the end and I'm with you. :)

Cyclists should have sufficient lighting at night so that they can be seen by other road users, AND they should observe the highway code. Nothing could be simpler, but unfortunately our roads are populated by groups who think they possess a monopoly of use and everyone else can fuck off. Too many selfish cnuts on the roads whether they ride two, three, four, eighteen wheels or just jaywalk!
