Lyon CL QF Post-Match Thread

Rodri's passing stats are monumental - 100 per cent once or twice this season and the thick end of 200 passes in each of those games. Gets stuck in. That's why he plays.
That's a very misleading stat. If you're only making 5 years passed, sideways or backwards, it can only harm the team. 2 years ago otamendi had the highest figure in the pl, but was and is a shambolic defender

Didn’t understand why he completely changed things from how well we played against RM.

Why start Garcia if he wants to leave?

as much as I rate Gundo, Ferds and Rodri. All 3 together can’t play together and Ferds definitely showed his age last night.

2-2 if Rahem bagged that.

oh well, other than the mess around the 2nd goal can’t complain really.

better side beat us. Hope they win the thing now
What's your explanation for rating gundogun. I can't see one redeeming quality in him

Pep has shown loyalty to players who are either past their prime (gundo and Fernandinho) or worse who don't want to stay with us (Garcia). This impacts players like Foden, Bernardo Stones etc.
I do think the club is at a crossroad as Pep only has 1 year left
The owner, Khaldoon etc must be asking questions as it's clear we have regressed since the treble season and by quite some distance - just look at who we have lost to this season and the number of losses
In Europe another failure and not even a glorious one.
And to that list add Mahrez over Sane. Sane is ten times the player Mahrez will ever be and he was chucked out by pep

Did you actually look at the starting teams for both games ? He didn't completely change things.

One change, Garcia for Foden, and Foden wasn't great against real, not the change I would have made, but I can understand why Foden was on the bench.

They started both games against Real, Liverpool at home and Manure away in the cup: probably our best 4 games all season.

The problem wasn't the Rodri and Gundy pairing per se but playing them with 3 CBs against Lyon. That killed our natural game.

A combo of Rodri/Gundy and Silva was worse than a combo of Gundy and Rodri but people have a natural soft spot for Silva and tend to blame other players when we lose with Silva in the team.
I'm fairly sure neither Silva featured until the oposition were home and hosed.

are you mad? He went for them against RM rather than siting back against Lyon.

PF may not have had his best game against RM but he was certainly chasing the ball down a lot more putting pressure

Agree with most of what you say, but for me Mahrez isn't good enough. He is a one trick pony at best, can trap a long pass and cut inside, nothing else. Cannot unlock a defence on his own and Disappears in big games. And is very selfish - not pep like or good for city
Mahrez much improved this season but agree with what you say.

Not good enough for me, would love to see him replaced with a player with ou and out pace.

Still can't for the life of me why after clawing our way back to 1-1 it didn't dawn on him that we'd got out of jail and presented him with a chance to rectify the original selection error by immediately dispatching Phil and Bernie onto the pitch with the instructions to run their knackers off for 20 mins which would have finished Lyon off. 4-1-4-1 Gundo and Gabby off ,Raz up top Rodri sitting and one of the CBs lying deeper for the hoof over the top
Still hope he signs for 2 more though
