To me there are two crucial pieces of circumstantial evidence, both concerning the man carrying a child sighting.
In the first, the McCann's friend Jane Tanner claimed to have seen a man carrying a child. However, from her evidence it was considered almost impossible that no one else would have seen this man as according to this his route would have taken him past a busy area with a number of other people in it and no one else saw him as she described it.
However, an Irish family also saw a man carrying a child at the time of the incident. They were shown pictures of Robert Murat but failed to identify him. However, when they got back to Ireland and were watching the news, they saw the man they had seen that night. They believe it was Gerry McCann.
