Do Brits have a Fifth Amendment type right, or is silence considered an indication of non-cooperation and (suspicion of) guilt?
The British version of the Miranda Warning is quite different.
Sorry for the drift, but I have no idea what happened to Madeline and doubt we will ever know. Millions of people are missing across the world and I’m not sure what makes this one so special, apart from the British tabloid media’s obsession with trying to show the parents did it... much like Jon Benet Ramsey in Boulder, CO.
No coincidence they were both beautiful young girls, and have probably succumbed to the whims of much older men. Men, one might argue, in general and throughout history, have been a bit of a plague on the human race, and perhaps even worse for other living organisms.
Sad.

I find myself constantly changing my mind on what happened.
The McCann's behaviour was odd but they had a PR consultant on board early that was instructing them on what to do to keep this in the public eye and secure the resources to find their daughter. But even that is odd.
I probably don't have enough money to afford top end PR consultants but my main focus if my daughter was taken would be on finding her and I wouldn't give a shit whether I came across like a ****. Were they poorly advised or purposely spending money on advisors to help keep them out of the investigation as long as possible.
Would I give a shit if someone accused me of killing my daughter if I hadn't?! Would I spend time and money on a libel case to secure damages?
The immediate behaviour is odd. If my Mrs had have found my daughter missing she would have screamed the place down, she wouldn't walk back to the restaurant. But people act in different ways. The fact they didn't assist the Portuguese police is odd. They were confrontational and then made it a media circus. This led to poor policing and conflicts between the Portuguese and British police/media.
I don't know what happened and I don't think we will ever find out. But for no one to see her being taken is remarkable. And makes me feel like there is much more to this case than a simple abduction.
Just watched the dogs section on the Netflix series. Anyone who doesn't suspect the parents after watching that has their head buried in the sand
I don't want them to be guilty but I sat down and watched this with someone who thought all the conspiracies was nonsense. After watching episodes 3-5 they'd changed their mind.I find it sad that this case keeps getting stirred up by tabloid media. If you look at the facts the investigation had practically nothing to go on form day 1 and it still doesn't.
The use of dogs proves practically nothing as they do not give you any concrete information. They were in there many months after the disappearance. Even if you accept they identified a death in the apartment or that Maddie died in the apartment to 100% accuracy what does that give you? It doesn't say who was responsible. The facts on the ground make it incredibly difficult for the McCanns to have been involved, there is no window of more than about an hour in the early evening for them to dispose of a body! They had no car! There were a number of potential witnesses if they had tried to dispose of a body. If this was unplanned then how the F did they manage to hide her within an hour to the extent she would never be found despite possibly the biggest search ever conducted for a missing person. If it was planned then there is no way they would have left the trail of events they did - no one would ever plan something like that where they exposed themselves to the level of criticism they have! I don't think the McCannes are anything other than scapegoats for the incompetent Portuguese investigators and perfect fodder for the worst kind of journalism.

I'm still confused what happened here, the dogs found evidence, DNA labs found matches, what happened with all that? The dogs sent in confirmed what happened imho dont think there was a kidnapping
Not anymore, but the narrative is ALWAYS an inside job.On the whole, I think the press over here were more focused on portraying the Portuguese police as inept rather than saying the parents did it. With regards to Jon Benet, doesn't all of the evidence point to the fact that either her parents or brother did it and the family covered it up with a comically bad ransom story?
