Madeleine McCann

We have had a child brutally murdered in our family. Surprised that people show so little compassion for the family. For them it is a life of regret and anguish. It never goes from your mind. The questions, the guilt, the inability to protect. Empathy is in truth a great virtue. It ripped apart my family, blame is so easy for some isn't it.
Sorry to hear that pal. I can only imagine the anguish and emptiness of those affected: (

I find these kind of threads hard to take part in tbh. Any child murder is horrific and I hope the evil bastard who murdered Madeline can be convicted and help her parents to come to terms in closure of this heinous crime.

I confess that I have mainly resided in the camp of the parents knowing something about all of this since it happened. Hopefully the authorities are now on the right path and can give some closure to the horror of it all. I'd say it would be a fairly crippling set back if the current suspect was not the right person after all.

I feel strongly about this. In 30 or 40 years time historians will write about this as a societal issue that like most significant events reflects the times. This coincided with the birth and growth of 'social' media, used by many idiots who have had a platform to make noise they would never have otherwise have had heard. And those voices take hold and people take the same views. This has, as a fact, been driven by a dislike towards those parents by many because they are posher than some, and because they were on holiday in a fancy resort and have professional skilled jobs. Some of these same people will sit in pubs gobbing off about this while their kids run about outside unsupervised. We have all seen them. Some of these will send their kids to the shop for scratchcards and fags while they sit in front of 65inch tellys in shitholes watching jeremy kyle and not know where they go or who they see. They may well post on facebook about what cunts the McCanns are while they send those kids out. They have a bare faced cheek to criticise, because what happened could happen to anyone. Thankfully it didnt, but it did to them. They were checking in on those kids, and the fact is that a criminal pervert needed probably less than a minute to take her. That is rare, and horrifying. In these events people naturally and consistently need someone to blame, and blame them they have. Yes they are not identifiable people, they do not attract empathy in many. He is like Mark Zuckerburg in many ways, detached, unrelatable, bland. She didnt react in the way that people wanted her to. Who are we to say how she should react and behave? She is an intelligent and focused disciplined woman, not hysterical and demonstrative. But that doesnt mean anything, it is their tragedy and nobody has the right to say how they think they should be behaving. They are the victims of an awful event that could well have befallen a couple of people on carers allowance buying two pints of strongbow dark fruits in Wetherspoons while their nipper runs around the beer garden. The fact is that this bloke as seems likely lived a transient lifestyle burgling holidaymakers hotel rooms abroad while living in a camper van because he was a convicted villain unable to get a job and live anywhere because he was a raping pervert bastard. He could have done this to anyone anywhere but at that time was doing it to people on holiday. It takes seconds. Kevin and Karen at the bar buying Skol and Fruitshoots could just have easily have seen their nipper taken, but people would see them as bigger victims than the McCanns because they are more relatable to most.

Social standing and differences and the judgment of the public is totally irrelevant. It renders most of your post absolute waffle.

It doesn’t matter whether you are higher class, middle class or lowers class. It doesn’t matter whether you are black with pink spots or white with green ones.

You don’t leave children unattended.

It’s pretty simple stuff.

People, parents do that though. There is always a time when it happens. We all could be that parent it happens to, so the comments from people in here that the parents are stupid and "deserve" punishing is directed at ALL parents including me. I find it quite insulting.

And it's victim blaming, it is sick.

As with many things in life, and very prevalent at the moment, context is absolutely crucial.

There are varying degrees of situations. There will, naturally, be moments where you can’t have eyes on your children. It happens.

However, minimising risk is absolutely possible and leaving children unattended in an apartment room with limited visibility while you sit poolside having a jolly time, in a foreign country, does not represent an example of it. Many on here are getting these lines blurred. That is a choice, a very poor one and they have paid the consequences if she was abducted.

I was having an argument with someone yesterday about the state of McDonald’s at the moment. I believe the Oldham branch was shut by the local constabulary a couple days back. Anyway, the argument went that food is essential and that nobody complained about the line outside supermarkets. This is a great example of completely missing the context. The cue to get in McDonald’s was blocking a main road it was that long. It became a danger and stopped parts of our industry from moving in and around it. It was a selfish act and frankly, absolutely pathetic but that’s another story.

Not everything is black and white.

Sounds more like a fuckin' huge snooker table was blocking the entrance pal; )

Their child was taken and you are blaming her. Its good old fashioned victim blaming.

It's as b&w as that.

The child was theirs to care for and protect and ensure her safety

Did they do that completely?

No and they will have to live with that, is that people blaming them or accepting the facts

Yes but not as much guilt as the child sex offending rapist burglar who took her. That is still a veiled dig at the parents. I swear people are disappointed that it looks like they didnt kill their daughter after all and have to have a pop anyway. Thankfully child sex offenders who abduct children are incredibly rare and opportunities for them to commit their crimes are incredibly rare. That is why they take what opportunities are presented. It doesnt take much of one.

So has this bloke been tried and convicted already then? Fuck me, that was a quick turnaround.

I also find some of your pontificating on this thread somewhat laughable as you previously never had this down as abduction and murder by a paedophile, instead telling us all that it was “obvious” what happened - that she was hit and killed by a car driven by a passing tourist and the body was then disposed of somewhere else

Other than wearing an" I killed Madeleine" t shirt could this suspect have any more incriminating evidence that should have been picked up at least 3 years ago if not earlier. Surely this sad matter is close to closure at last

Going to be tough to get forensic evidence in the absence of a body. I find it astonishing that this guy hasn’t come to light sooner after reading up about his profile and his familiarity with the area, and considering that this is the most high profile missing persons case over the past 13 years in the whole of Europe.

Weird how the German police allegedly say they know how she was killed!
Has he coughed up or was he bragging to his mate?
I also wonder why they cannot trace all calls, both phone numbers or perhaps they just rang each other once, seems unlikely.

I agree with you mate.
I feel incredibly sorry for them, but thinking of how we were with our kids, we would never have done what they did.
You just don't leave little kids alone, especially when they're not at home in their own bedroom.
What if Madeline had woken up and been frightened that her parents weren't there ?
But nevertheless, I still feel very sorry for them, it must be torture.
I feel equally sorry for them and frustrated with them. If I knew them, as much as I’d give them a hug for their sorrow, I’d also feel like shaking and slapping them both and saying “WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU DOING?”

Madeleine did wake up scared the previous night as it’s been said that she’d asked the Mother why she didn’t come when she called her when she was scared and crying.

When you look at where the room was, how easy it was to access, how easy it was to get to from multiple places, how close it was to the outside grounds of the hotel and road with a secluded exit onto that road... I wouldn’t leave my favourite pen unattended in that apartment, never mind three children.
