Madeleine McCann

More hyperbole. The restaurant was 55m away. No one would ever get prosecuted for child neglect for being 55m away from there children in a holiday resort complex. The McCanns haven't been prosecuted because such a case would be bound to fail. So they are not criminally negligent. Semantics maybe but people seem to be desperate to see these 2 locked up.
ask me the question... would the McCanns have been pursued for child neglect in the same circumstances in the UK?... go on, do it - you can't/won't, because I know the answer and you only think you know

Why don't you enlighten us and tell us what kind of sentence they might expect?

Not hyperbole at all. Hundreds of people are prosecuted for similar offences in the UK every single year.

It might as well have been 55 miles away. It makes no difference

Certainly in the UK (and Portugal AFAIK), you can be prosecuted if if you lock your child in the house and leave them unsupervised, particularly if it puts them at risk. There clearly was a risk, because the McCann's had no idea their anything was wrong until they got home.

I'm not desperate to see them locked up; they've suffered enough. All I'm saying is they appear to have been treated differently due to their social standing.

never had an issue with this poster... but needs to admit here, that he is (at best) guessing... and (more likely) talking through his arse - confess to that, and I'd have more respect for his guesswork

Agreed.

The authorities decided not to prosecute in this case, and it doesn't appear to be based solely on the facts of the case.

My previous boss's wife was a solicitor for Child Services in Cheshire, and I know from her that even though it shouldn't, social standing and the ability to pay for top class legal counsel plays a big part in the outcome on decisions prosecute.

Mrs KBN works for one of the (if not, the most) cases per capita (authority) in the country, so I'm intrigued to hear Conlon's facts/experiences

It’s not just the criminal aspect, it’s the entire media reaction to it. Infact I don’t think a criminal aspect has come into it, regardless of their social standing.

What has irked many is the fact that two so called professional people can leave their kids, actually no, abandon their kids to indulge with their chums. One of their kids disappears and the entire British, and in some cases, the world media turn up in sympathy and relentlessly emphasise who these people are, and what they stand for in their community. It goes on for years and years, with funds pumped in again and again.

Change that to a single parent in some Ibiza complex, she leaves her kids to get pissed in a bar and the same outcome happens.

No media apart from it being broadcast in Britain about what a shit parent she is. No constant coverage and years of funding. No yellow ribbons. Nothing but vilification as to how she could do that.

It’s been a fucking disgrace from day one how the media covered it.

I work in the media, and cannot disagree with that summation

This is the biggest Bluemoon pile on to the middle class since I posted on the ‘All City fans are working class’ thread a few years ago.

My original point (which has made you lose your mind) was that they are not criminally negligent as they haven't been charged with or found guilty of negligence.

This is a simple fact.
